Maybe Richard Armitage as Matthew Clairmont Really is a Possibility

Oh, sure if you follow Richard Armitage’s Twitter account, you know he has followed Deborah Harkness. But I wanted to see a little more before I took that crumb and made a meal out of it. Well, there may be something coming to feast on with the news Deborah Harkness has given on her Facebook page:

All Souls Trilogy News: I’m delighted to share that the All Souls Trilogy is now in development with the BBC, who hope to adapt it for television. I am confident that they will be careful custodians of the characters you love, and have every expectation that the BBC will produce something fantastic. That’s all that I can say about the project at the moment, but stay tuned for further details as they become available.

  1. Wow, I´d absolutely love that. Love the books and at least there´d be a love story included and no more dying as in his other roles :)

  2. Hm, i think it is a very good move on the part of the BBC, this can potentially be a several season series which is what you’d want to be looking for. Unfortunately being realistic this very fact probably reduces the chances of RA taking the role significantly: i don’t think the BBC is able to afford RA anymore for a full series, even less for one with potentially several seasons. Also, would he want to be back doing UK TV? Yes, BBC series do get aired in the US as well, but mostly on cable channels with smaller audience….

  3. I don’t think it’s going to be Richard Armitage – but he’ll already have the teeth id he needs them.

  4. I would think he’d at least consider the role, knowing he’s a “fan favorite” for a large contingent. I haven’t finished the first book, but I would return and try again if RA signed on… naturally!

  5. It’s an interesting fact to know that Mathew Clairmont was in fact written with RA in mind. Still don’t care for vampires tho.

  6. To date, I’ve tended to think that Richard Armitage would not be cast for this role. The main reason being that WB was developing it, and I’m not so sure they are big on Richard Armitage. But obviously I’ve changed my mind a little, and a lot of that has to do with not only the BBC now developing something but also the interesting trajectory of Richard’s career.

I’m not big on vampires either, Cill, but then I wasn’t big on heinous henchmen who wear leather. We see how that turned out. ; p

  7. Deborah Harkness follows him on twitter and even saw a performance of The Crucible in London. Richard read the book and it seems that he even called the lady who sent it to him and showed his interest and said, that he wanted to talk to his agent about it: https://twitter.com/JasRangoon/status/259345090076622848
Remains to be seen if anything comes of it…

  8. Sadly – I very much doubt that RA would be in this …. such a pity. I’d love to see it happen but I know it won’t. :(

  9. On Twitter….RA and DH follow *each other*. I don’t put it out of the realm of possibility at all. Happened over the summer.

  10. I didn’t place nearly as much stock in DH following RA as his following her. I guess that’s why I didn’t highlight it.

  11. I’d so love to see RA play Mr. Rochester. I can dream, right?

  12. He would be fantastic as Rochester!

  13. That resonant voice, that intensity…. oh, yeah. Maybe they could do a modern remake somehow to be different from all the other versions — same characters but skillfully adapted for modern times.

  14. A modern remake sounds almost better than the original.

  15. So many excellent actors such as Michael Fassbender, Cieran Hinds and Timothy Dalton have created excellent Mr. Rochesters, so we need something a tad different!

  16. And don’t forget Toby Stephens starring Mr. Rochester in the BBC mini series from 2006. It was him who brought me to RAddiction playing Prince John in Robin Hood and Frank Arlington in Strike Back. Strange😀
