Has Netflix Renewed Their Contract with BBC?

North and South NetflixAccording to a commenter, JustLuthen, it’s a done deal:

“I just spoke with Netflix. It has renewed its contract with the BBC and RA’s not going anywhere.”

Thanks, Luthen. It’s a great message on a Monday morning, and my optimist is clinging onto it. Not because I need to watch the Netflix version of North and South, or MI-5 (Spooks) or Robin Hood, but because it’s such an easy way to turn potential fans onto Richard Armitage.

Maybe some of the rest of you can also call to ensure that Netflix means what they say! :D

edit: Spooks is not staying. Bummer.

What Variety should have said about the shows not staying:

Fans should ‘plain that “Fawlty Towers,” “Blackadder,” “MI-5″ and “Red Dwarf” will no longer be available on Feb. 1.

:D

Yes, There Will Be Tattoos

At least that’s how it’s looking.

As I said in my last piece, perhaps The Red Dragon influenced the Spooks writers in their creation of Lucas North. But it seems the portrayal of Lucas North may have affected the casting of Richard Armitage in Hannibal.

He does wear tattoos well:

spooks701_052

And Francis definitely has tattoos:

2g28VImT47xQXqgA2BjsOMTrE2GRalph Fiennes as Francis Dolarhyde in The Red Dragon

Richard Armitage may have big shoes to fill in playing the role previously done by Ralph Fiennes, but you know, he has no worries in the physical department. I don’t even like tattoos, but the shallow part of me is hoping the dragon tattoo somehow makes it to the front of Francis’s body.

William Blake, Here I Come Again

Gee, I’ve been here before.

Reddragon

It seems Francis Dolarhyde is obsessed with this painting by William Blake. And yes, my ignorance of Thomas Harris’s book is showing. Red Dragon can mean a helluva lot of things, and so years ago when I heard of the book, I didn’t automatically associate it with Blake’s The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed with the Sun. Obviously, I’m curing my ignorance this evening by reading up on this character and drawing all sorts of interesting conclusions. Blake definitely does that to you, er, me whenever he’s around.

And for the uninitiated, the character of Lucas North (played by our guy) was, dare I say it, entangled in the worldview of Willam Blake — or so we were led to believe by the writers and a statement or two by Richard Armitage before his first episode in Spooks was broadcast. Not to mention, these paintings prominently displayed in Lucas’s apartment:

blake1

All of this has me very interested in reading the book and also wondering how much it influenced the Spooks writers even though it seems they were either grappling with a) not being good enough to pull off an interesting plot line involving the philosophies of Blake, or b) the damn BBC not giving them the support they needed to develop the character satisfactorily, or c) Richard Armitage being cast in The Hobbit, or d) all of the above. Yes, I’m being kind with the last three options although Richard Armitage leaving Spooks indeed had some impact on how his character was resolved. I just think the writing had gone to shit before he decided to go onto something better.

But back to Francis. He does sound interesting, yet I’m finding I have to gear myself up to read about a maniac.

And no question I’m going to have more to say about Blake. I never did get those thoughts out of my system when many of us were in the throes of watching Lucas North. Maybe I will now.

note to self: find that book on Blake! It has to be around here somewhere.

Missed Opportunities?

I’m not sure why it is, but I still get a tingle down my spine when I hear about this new movie the Spooks franchise is filming in New Zealand. This shouldn’t be the case when I consider what happened with the series. Whoever ran pr for that notoriously got it wrong. They could not keep things in the bag. Sure we didn’t know about Lisa Faulkner getting fried, and the series rode on the reverberations of that event for a long time. But it was the end of any real surprises as many of their remaining moves were telegraphed and primarily via promotional spots.

So I come to The Greater Good, and I can’t help but wonder if they will get the promotion right. I hope so, and if anyone who has any clout with that show is reading this post (fat chance, but I’m optimistic still), would you please put the fear of God in the guy who is doing the marketing, so the greater good of this movie as a thriller can be preserved?

I feel myself wanting to really launch into a rant about Spooks, but I’ve done that already. As for Richard Armitage, I hate how that show went down for him. The possibilities were so much better than the reality. Maybe I will go on a rant after all but not today.

Other than that, will this franchise sneak someone in from the past? If so, whom will it be? And don’t ever think it can’t be someone dead. They resurrected Tom didn’t they? Plus, there can always be a flashback.

I know I’m like a dog with a bone on this subject, but something in me won’t let it go. Maybe because Richard Armitage can’t seem to let it go.

Thank you to Ali at RichardArmitageNet.com for reminding me of which interview Richard talked about Spooks and to the the ladies at RichardArmitageCentral who are so faithful to create transcripts of RA’s interviews!

#4 Richard Armitage and His Hair

This is part of my series of posts counting down to and through the Thanksgiving holidays and expressing my thankfulness for something I’ve received, experienced or participated in.

Richard and His Hair.

Richard Armitage has excellent hair. I’ve thought that ever since I saw this:

rh107_020

It was a vast improvement over the extensions:

rh101-021

But back to the luscious locks:

rh110_006

Is that seriously awesome looking hair or what? Women would kill to have hair like this. And if those are extensions around his neck, I don’t want to hear about it! That looks real.

And I’m going to stay off the topic of his sideburns as I absolutely despised long sideburns until I saw them on Richard. I’m not kidding when I say that. I cannot stand long sideburns. They look awful to me, but Richard can wear them, and I’m thinking about a wolf whistle.

About the time I got used to the magnificent mullet, I was hit with this:

5_52

That’s the mother of all razor cuts. I mean all razor cuts are or should be defined by it, and when their barbers are suggesting razor cuts, men should aspire to this cut. Not 6’2″, don’t have beautiful blue eyes and a great jaw? No problem. There’s a cut that fixes all of that. I can hear the thinking now.

And then there was this which created a backlash in RA Universe. A significant number were saying ewwwww to Guy’s new do. Me? I loved it. Even when it was unwashed the first few weeks, but man, he cleaned up well:

5_040

Then it was back to the sleek look:

ep5_081

Where he stayed until this came around:

press_conference_screencapI’m a beard person, so this was fantastic to me.

And since then, I’ve been treated to all types of styles to please any appraising eye.

A little bit of a pompadour going on in this one:
Glamour-07

Not much hair shown; this was the brutally short look:
FAULT-01

Okay, so it’s not all of his hair, but Thorin’s mane is fantastic. I had to show it, and you get some chest hair thrown in:
Richard Armitage Thorin bloody

Back to the tailored look, and I’m talking the hair:
'the hobbit - an unexpected journey' world film premiere, wellington, new zealand - 28 nov 2012, ,

This one is the I don’t give a rat’s ass how I look ’cause I’m considering that prisoner of war role:

Richard_Armitage_bloody_cats

And finally the pompadour is perfected:

That particular photo still packs a punch.

Heck, it’s just been more or less a thrill ride to see what he would come with next, and it occurred to me that there is no need to get antsy about his next project and every reason to be thankful for being entertained by his hair. To wit:

Richard Armitage curly locksIs there enough going on here to make a ponytail for Poldark?

And if I get bored with this, I can go back to some old photos.

Here’s a favorite:

See what I mean about the sideburns?

And He’s Good Looking Too

James Blunt is who I mean
On Twitter with quips so keen
To those watching he leaves no doubt
In exquisite style he puts his detractors to rout
But never so low as to demean (Thank you, James)

Just a few comebacks from the “most hated man in pop”:

More here.

James Blunt

James,

I knew you were talented when I listened to Give Me Some Love. Phew. What a song. There are others I love as well, but that’s not the point of this letter.

There is nothing sexier than a guy who is smart. Just don’t ever spoil it by revealing you don’t man your account alone. No, I’m not implying you have help, but if you do, I don’t want to hear about it!

Keep it up, and I’ll see you on the Twitter timeline.

Sincerely,
A crazy fan of some guy named Richard Armitage and you of course.

P.S. Certainly I meant it when I said you’re good looking, but then you don’t need someone like me to tell you that. :D

For the Armitage fans, one of the best fan videos around, and if James Blunt (or his people; thinking of Warner Bros. mostly) were to come over here and look at this post, which I doubt but I’m covering my ass anyway, we need to make it clear that we (yes, I’m speaking for all or most of you) incessantly buy the music of these videos we love. *and the crowd all nodded in unison*

James’ new album Moon Landing comes out Tuesday in the U.S

George Soros and I Are Still Alive — Really

I’m getting this post out of the way before I start eating the elephant (Richard Armitage’s whirlwind in Australia).

My recent absence certainly obliterated any good intentions for keeping up, and absolutely shot my April A to Z challenge to hell. Nevertheless, I’ll probably take a run at the challenge next year. Until then, I thought seriously of calling this post “I’ve Seen Hell,” but the news provided something better. Although it is true. I have seen hell.

I’ve witnessed SO‘s physical anguish. Certainly it’s been a horrible thing for him. I can’t fully process what he’s been through. But it’s also hell to watch the suffering of someone you love and be able to do little or nothing. For a control freak and scrapper like me, that is surely torture. Thankfully, I’ve been learning a better way by watching him. Despite being in pain topped off by even more pain, the man who has never been fake (and I admire him greatly for this ability) was a diplomat in horrendous circumstances. Graciousness all around — when I wanted to strangle someone. LOL! I’m glad I can laugh about this now that he is doing so much better! More on that later.

And I can even be content with all that’s happened when my mind’s eye sees SO’s sweet grin that charmed his nurses even as his fate was questionable. What made it sweeter was he had no intent to charm. But anyone that earnest and hopeful and clever of tongue is bound to generate some infatuation. Reminds me of someone else I’ve observed, and certainly goes a long way toward explaining my continued existence here.

That, and some insanity. :D

A little something to help me mute my rational self and get back in the flow:

I know I’m not the first to say it, but damn! look at those eyelashes. They ought to be illegal. But great for going insane. LOL! *maniacal laugh in progress*

Too bad Lucas isn’t still alive, or maybe he is.

And now for Richard:

Dear Rich,

I really thought I was going to just leave you alone for good, but you’re too much fun, and so are your fans. I hope you don’t mind that I just can’t quit you. Yes, I admit I’m usually this cheesy, but would you rather I be serious? I didn’t think so. ;-)

Signed,
One of your crazy fans, who honestly doesn’t know how long she can keep her serious self down; just know that I’m trying. I’m really, really trying.

note: if you’re thoroughly confused by this post, another post or two might shed some light on what we’ve been going through. Or skip it and come back when I bite into this last round of RA’s interviews.

Spooks, The Movie

According to Peter Firth, a movie version of Spooks is in the works. As much as I’ve ranted about my frustration with Spooks Series 9, I’m totally up for a film version of the series and of course one that includes the erstwhile Lucas North.

o-SPOOKS-570

Richard Armitage is so cagey, it wouldn’t surprise me if he already knew about this. He talked about it so enthusiastically in the past, I’ve always wondered myself.

Advanced Fangirling

I asked the other day if you are really a fan of Richard Armitage? This is a test to see if you are really, really a fan of Richard Armitage.

Yesterday this picture was posted on Twitter:

And immediately a fan spotted him. At first I didn’t believe it, but I had to go into Advanced Fangirling to determine it was really him. Advanced mode is when I break out Photoshop and feel the urge to draw arrows. I didn’t quite get to the arrows, but I couldn’t resist the urge to blow this thing up, and yes, he’s in the middle of the pic.

Now I’m really scaring myself that I know that. It’s the way he’s holding his arms out from his torso, and obviously those are his hands. This is worse than the Cats video. LOL!

And now Todd Garner must think we’re all nuts, and you know what? I don’t blame him. ;D

edit: Okay, you all forced me to resort to arrows. His head, which doesn’t show, would be to the right of the black spot. The upper green arrow points to his hand, and the lower green arrow points to his leg. Hope this helps. LOL!

second edit: this one is for the really, really blind among you. :D

third edit: for comparison purposes (thanks, Kaprekar); assuming you can actually see him in the other pic:

Testing, Testing

TheOneRingnet is trying for 60,000 likes on their Facebook page before Comic-Con begins on July 11. I give you that date in case you have been under a rock somewhere in RA universe.

This is my good faith effort to hopefully encourage you to “like” the page and get your friends and family to do the same. As of this post, there are 56,892 “likes.” So 3,108 more. Just making the number clear for the action fans. ;-)

Okay, the good faith effort:

and a commitment to more and better shots if we get that FB page to 60K and soon.

Some of you may think this is cruel, since you’re so starved for new Richard Armitage photos. Trust me; it’s going to be worth it. :D

And this is the least we can do for TORn, who is going to bring us such good coverage of Comic-Con – including RA’s appearance.

Now go forth and conquer the “like” button.
