Finally Saw Into the Storm

SO and I were finally able to see this movie last night. And here’s a one sentence review for those in a hurry: I liked it!

Yep, that’s right, a Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, Charlotte Bronte’ loving fan likes her some action adventure. Psst: don’t tell the action fans or it will spoil my image, but then I did say there is one way to turn us hopeless romantics into action fans. But that’s not the only reason in this case.

Into the Storm is a great summer ride, which is exactly what I thought it was going to be, and I was not disappointed. As well, I agree with several fans who said Max Deacon did a great job. We will certainly be seeing more of him. I also thought the rest of the cast did well. I already liked Matt Walsh. I knew almost nothing about Sarah Wayne Callies, and now I know something, and I like her. She can fawn over Richard any day of the week. Just wish it were in a movie. LOL! I also liked Alycia Debnam-Carey and Arlen Escarpeta. Both of them held their own. Jeremy Sumpter played the perfect guy caught in something bigger than he was, and Kyle Davis and Jon Reep were a scream. Their characters Donk and Reevis were the perfect comic relief.

But I adored Nathan Kress. I had never seen much of anything with him except when I was briefly passing through the room where my youngest child was watching iCarly a few years ago. I’ll have to think about exactly what it was about Nathan, but for now, the few times he was heard or seen, his charisma was huge!

Dear Mr. Garner,

Thank you, thank you for the ride. All of it. I know other fans have already thanked you for all the fun we’ve had, but I had to do it too. And Into the Storm was worth the $11.50 admission + $10.00 for popcorn and a drink x 2. My SO and I had a lot fun, and I even got a little choked during one scene and did not expect that. LOL!

Into the Storm Tickets Selling Out

Into the Storm selling outI’ve been out of pocket more or less the last couple of days due to unexpected company — my brother. We were going to try to see Into the Storm this evening, but it’s sold out. I should have known this since I’ve had several fans telling me they went to see the show only to find the screening they wanted was sold out.

Armitage Besotted and her bunch in Manhattan were going to attend a particular screening today, and it was sold out. They had to attend later. TheQueen went to see it yesterday at 11:00am, and I was stunned when she told me the theater began to fill up as she was waiting for the previews to end. Did I mention this was 11:00am in the morning? That venue was Kansas City. A friend in Denver also experienced a sold out screening. She and her companion bought the last two tickets for the performance they attended. And I could go on with stories like this from around the country.

The moral of this story is don’t wait until the last minute to purchase tickets.

Queue the Ride

I only know the basic plot of Into the Storm, and I know some of the characters damn near get blown away, and maybe some actually do get blown away. Whatever else happens, the cast is enjoying themselves:

He seems happy with what he’s doing. That sense of lightheartedness and joy has run through almost all of his interviews about Into the Storm, and it has made me rethink the movie. I have taken it way too seriously. Sure the subject matter is serious, but then so was the subject matter of ConAir. and somehow that was fun.

I could be so wrong, but Richard Armitage is a bit readable. I don’t mean about everything he does, but oftentimes he reflects the nature of what he’s working on, and with Into the Storm, I see him smiling a lot:

I’m taking this as a sign we’re in for some fun times come August 8th. And Sharks be damned. :D

In the meantime, I really appreciate Heather sharing her work with all of us. She’s been a wealth of wonderful photos, and dare I say some iconic images of Richard Armitage. It does help that she’s a professional photographer. In fact, I have sometimes forgotten that because she is so laid back about it and just makes it look easy, and she happened to already be working WonderCon. Yay!

Know Surprises

Richard Armitage with bedroom eyesNow that we’re reasonably sure Richard Armitage will be starring in The Old Vic’s version of The Crucible, this probably means no RA at Comic-Con in San Diego. Yep, I’m thinking that may be what it means. Unless he got two days off to make a jaunt across the pond. If he does come to the Con, he probably won’t be there on Saturday but rather Thursday, since Saturdays are big days in the theater. Or am I wrong about this?

Yeah, I think the group in London will try to accommodate a trip to Cali — at least mid-week so he can promote Into the Storm. Unless his last minute appearance at Cinema-Con in Las Vegas was a trade-off for not appearing in San Diego.

Then again, I could be so out in left field, because last time I checked, Peter Jackson is no pushover, and he’s not going to have a skeleton crew at Comic-Con and certainly not doing his thing on Thursday. It will be Saturday for PJ and company, and not to mention that Richard Armitage seems to be the point man for pushing The Hobbit. But maybe that was also a trade-off, so that Richard is getting it out of the way and will be free all summer. I kind of doubt that.

Or maybe it’s either/or. He gets to be there on Thursday or Saturday but not both. Or maybe both PJ and Todd have their promotions running on Saturday. I’m so confused.

My gut: if he made an agreement with Peter Jackson to be there for The Hobbit, he will be. How can I say that? Hmm, Peter Jackson, the West End, Peter Jackson, the West End. Uh yeah, it’s Peter Jackson. Whether fair or not, that’s probably reality.

Whatever happens, it’s probably not a good idea for fans to buy tickets to The Crucible from July 23-28.* Can you imagine how pissed off you would be if you did and he was an ocean away? Yeah, consider this post a public service.

Other than that, the photo above is an interesting pick for The Mail. Is he a deer caught in the glare of the paparazzi or are those the bedroom eyes that get John Proctor and the rest of Salem in trouble? ;-)

edit: it just occurred to me I may have made an error in this piece because The Old Vic is not technically in the West End. It’s not even in the area known as Theatreland. I’m doing this entirely from memory, so if anyone knows, educate me please. I don’t have time to look it up! :)

* those blackout dates are subject to change based on the confirmed news we hear; however, it’s good to keep in mind that the Into the Storm premiere will be coming up not long after Comic-con. The world premiere will be less than two weeks after Comic-Con ends.

Richard Armitage, the Salesman

I’m pulling a page out of Guylty’s book and doing an image analysis but doing it Frenz style. That’s where my bullshit peddler/detector (you decide) is in overdrive.

Photos do not always convey reality, but whatever they convey, the effect can be profound. Take this photo for example:

If I were a betting person, I would bet this photo does more to entice most of you to go see Into the Storm than any trailer ever will. :D

Dear Mr. Garner,

If you want the Army to turn out en masse, ensure more photos like this make it to the public’s eyes. Remember what you said about Richard Armitage being dreamy? Well, Sarah is certainly doing her part to respond, and I can hear the collective sighs as I type this.

No, No, No, No, and No, Richard Armitage Does Not Die

Some people are afraid Gary Morris will meet his fate. My gut screams no. For two reasons. That’s not Todd Garner’s thing, and I don’t think it’s John Swetnam’s thing either. I could be wrong about Swetnam since he’s still a bit of a dark horse, but c’mon, they can’t tell us anything. That would ruin it. In the meantime, they’re going to mess with our heads, so just bear up. ;D

However:

Richard,

If you die in this film, well, dammit, man, can we please have a break from that? Oh yeah, you do dying well, but how about some variety?

But I’m not really worried about this since my gut still has a pretty good average if you do recall. No, don’t ask me about Lucas North.

Anyway, this is not a series where you could get stuck.

#12 Todd Garner

It’s 12 days until Thanksgiving in the U.S., and I have so much to be thankful for that I can’t get it into one post. I’m starting today with yep, you guessed it, the first of 12 posts. And please note these are not necessarily in order of importance.

836910702f7c15f7d73fd81128a13291Todd Garner. I think it’s obvious why I’m thankful for Todd Garner. But what some of you don’t know is he loves to laugh. That immediately made me really like him because I love to laugh too — even when it may not be appropriate.

Things falling down around your ears? Life not going the way you had planned — at all? It’s just kicking your ass? Start laughing and things will look better immediately. Yeah, we’ve all heard that, but how many of us practice it?

As my life goes on, I’m practicing more and more, and I get the sense Todd Garner practices regularly too. My memory of talking to him is our conversation began with laughter and there was more as we went. Oh yeah, sure it passed through my mind that he may have been amused at talking to a crazy fan, and well, he was talking to a crazy fan. But it was more than that. He seems happy. Whenever I see his tweets, I always think of him with a grin on his face, and it makes me grin. And that was even before he changed his avatar to a smile.

So where does all that smiling and laughing leave Into the Storm? Will it be a comedy? I don’t think so, but there may be a little bit of snark. Not enough to make it a comedy, but if Jon Swetnam is any indication, it’s hard to think a little snark won’t be present. Some of you may have noticed I do like my snark, so I can handle it. : D

And before anyone begins to think Garner has no traffic with a serious piece, one of the movies where he served as a producer is an excellent serious piece and a favorite of mine — Radio with Ed Harris and Cuba Gooding Jr. For those who haven’t seen it, I encourage you to watch it. And for those in other countries who want to be more conversant in American culture, it’s a real slice of what life can be like here. A definite must see.

Will Into the Storm be like that? Not entirely although tornadoes are a way of life in some parts of America and taken very seriously. If you had to replace your roof regularly and came home after a tornado to see that your house was standing and your next door neighbor’s was not, you would take it seriously. Plus, the damn things are unpredictable. Tornadoes do their own thing. Even weather watchers who study them will tell you they are only predictable to a point and then, all bets are off. Given that, Into the Storm will be a bit of a thrill ride and especially considering one version of it will be in 3D.
