This below appeared in my reader last night, and made me shift into overdrive on all sorts of notions about Richard Armitage and his involvement with The Hobbit. LOL!
LOTRO, Movies, MPAA Rate An Extended Version Of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hobbit — June 12, 2013 at 14:30
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) have just rated an extended cut of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Thanks to Melonfarmers for spotting this). This will not come as a major surprise to anyone, as details of this longer version were confirmed by Peter Jackson himself in an interview with Ain’t It Cool last year. What is interesting are the specifics details of the rating, which remains PG-13 for this longer version.
“ Rated PG-13 for extended sequences of intense fantasy action violence, frightening images and fleeting nudity”.
Fleeting nudity? That’s curious, to say the least. Exactly who is going to be naked and under what circumstances?
Who is going to be naked?
Now there’s a question.
I thought perhaps I was seeing things, but then I got up this morning, and TORn had a piece in my in-box.
Talk amongst yourself, but I would love to hear your speculation and I can see some of you feverishly clicking on your Photoshop. :D
Note to self: consider creating a WTF category

Hmmmmmmm. Gollum? Of course, I know who I’d prefer to see . . . *ahem*
They are always trying to tempt us, aren’t they??
Some unlucky person is taking a bath when the dragon hits town. #wheresmytowel!
I just commented there – I wonder if it’s the footage of PJ running down the tree and losing his trousers, in the extras. But I would love to have some dwarvish hijinks!! Please, dwarvish nudity. And we know Who I mean.
Hahahaha … Breathe ….. Hahahaha
What? Must be the dwarf calendar somewhere.
Yo, ratings board, those are fat suits.
Gollum. Must be his fault.
Stacie, that’s hilarious. The Master of Laketown, sans towel!!
Reblogged this on Me + Richard Armitage and commented:
[Comments over there, please!]
The mind boggles…watch it be Azog!
Lol! There was some fun discussion about this at C19. Damaris had a few quirky ideas about who might appear in the buff:

the dwarves bathing in the river maybe? (that speculation may be biased ;) ) someone being surprised during the panic of the dragon attack? someone getting their clothes singed by the dragon? I’m going to be thinking of this all day now!
IKR? I’m trying to prep a class on the European Enlightenment, and all I can think about is naked dwarf butt….I’m officially a lost cause!
I think it may be the pants dropping good moment where Sir Peter was showing Richard how fast to run towards Azog down the log. I am not getting my hopes up for the Dwarf Calendar.
What is fleeting nudity to one may not to another. Dwarves in in pads with bare knees, one pair of dwarf knees I am thinking about.
1)How does even “fleeting nudity” get a PG-13 rating, and not an R? This is my only serious question. My Aunt Grati hat is on. Ha!
2) Is it the nanosecond nature of the flesh being shown? In which case, why bother including the clip? For mere titillation? Save it for the extended Directors cut–so to speak. Ha!
3) Was it an inadvertent wardrobe malfunction? And couldn’t they CGI over that? Or was the nudity missed before it went to the MPAA board? Giggles!
4) Who will be apparently apparally challenged? And what impact might this do to or for their career? Boost or Bust? Ha!
5) Cappers will be super slo-moing this one for sure. Let’s hope we don’t get any “interlacing” effects. Nudity in plaid or herringbone design just doesn’t do it for me. Ha!
:D feverishly clicking into a google translator…ah-ha.. fleeting ..:(
As far as I know extras aren’t rated. If something is rated, it’s the film itself. At least that’s the way it was taught in my film classes 4 years ago, but it may have changed since then.
Just thought I would pop in to say to all the people guessing stuff from the second and third movies – this is relevant only to the first movie:
“The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) have just rated an extended cut of The Hobbit: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY”
Therefore, it cannot refer to any scenes which would occur Desolation of Smaug, or the third movie. (I know most of you are joking, but perhaps you all already knew that :-D
The link I posted states it’s for Unexpected Journey Extended Edition, but it’s good to highlight it or those who don’t read the link.
Well, a lot of the comments I have seen around are speculating about the two movies that haven’t come out yet :-)
The only thing I can think of that might be “fleeting nudity” is *if* they show a bhs of the creation of the trolls. Back in the LOTR extras, they showed the process of creating a cgi troll – and it was anatomically correct. :-p
But if the extras aren’t rated, then I can’t imagine what it would be.
According to the MPAA, “There may be some profanity and some depictions of violence or brief nudity” in a PG rated film. “More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating”. In this system, brief nudity does not necessarily require an “R” rating unless there is something sexual about it – http://www.mpaa.org/ratings/what-each-rating-means
It seems likely that the rating is based on violence, although the rating itself doesn’t conform to the MPAA’s own stated guidelines.)
I can’t imagine either and especially when I consider how notoriously inconsistent the MPAA has been at times. I say that in spite of the web link with their guidelines.
And you’re right that a lot of people are speculating on the next two movies even though all of the articles I’ve seen make it clear it’s just Unexpected Journey.
I won’t disagree that they are inconsistent.
Has to be the wind blowing Gollum’s or troll’s loin cloths providing a tantalizing glimpse of beautiful butts. Maybe one of the ponies gets a haircut or someone is skinny dipping in the long shot of Hobbiton.
