Playing Catchup Has Never Been This Fun

From mid August to mid December, I was not very attentive to RA Universe, and I’m still terribly behind on my reading. But I am making up for lost time, and the blog pieces I’m reading are wonderfully done. Stay tuned for when I cheat a little and reblog some of what others have written. My biggest problem is deciding what to highlight first. Other bloggers have referenced and even highlighted some of these pieces, but that was their highlight and not mine. :D

And for the record, I was so right about giving Phylly the Do Wah Diddy Diddy Award. More on that later.

I also made several promises last year that I intend to make good on this year. No, that’s not a burden. It will be a joy. One of those is the Little Guy contest. More on that later today.

I know Peter Jackson won’t allow any photography from the winner of the Charity Auction! I was kidding about getting some pictures. It was just a joke. Honest.

Although if I were a winner, I might be tempted to take one of these to NZ:

No, not the matchstick. That thing above it — the camera. :D Of course I would also have to get a fake id and board a plane under false pretenses, so that I wouldn’t have to sign my real name on the non-disclosure agreement. LOL!

Watch someone take this seriously. Haven’t you learned anything about this blog?

The Chameleon

It was jarring to see the mixing of Richard Armitage’s characters in my last piece where several have “Guy hair”. That kind of cross-contamination doesn’t fit with how RA brought these characters to such lovely fruition.

The richness and distinction between his characters is what makes me such a rabid fan. From almost the beginning, I was stunned at this ability. And then there is Richard Armitage himself, who has managed to make his personality evident while not letting it bleed into his characterizations. He is not Guy no matter how gorgeous Guy’s hair.

Quick! When’s the last time you’ve known of an actor who played such distinct characters and was this distinct himself?!

edit: back this morning, and I have many more thoughts about these photos coming up in the next post. For now I’ll say that they have struck at something I was going to talk about more in-depth at some point — Richard’s ability to immerse himself so completely in a character. More soon. For now, I have to go drive around on the side of a mountain.

Yes, the Kid in the Back

Ali has put up a photo of Richard Armitage on tour with 42nd Street c. 1991. Do I need to diagram this? Nope, it’s obvious. He’s in the back with a huge grin on his face. What a joy to watch someone like that. I have a child who is rather tall and also a dancer. She is in the back a lot due to her height. When you’re taller than the others, you are often relegated to the back. But the look of pure joy on her face usually makes her stand out. She is almost always smiling. That’s her natural response to most public situations and to life in general. Perhaps I’m imbuing RA with her qualities, but it seems that he smiles a lot. I love that. There’s not enough smiling in the world.

edit: So perhaps Richard is standing behind the front of the line. I’m not sure, but that slightly pointed ear of the dark headed guy might be his. But I stand by what I said earlier about him smiling. If nothing else, the other picture taken behind the scenes at 42nd Street supports the claim. :D

Speculation — My Favorite Pastime

I immersed myself in over a thousand Post Secret cards to get ready for my last two pieces. The range of emotions this evoked nearly took off my head. Each card is a story much like the six word story attributed to Hemingway although the Post Secret cards are more powerful for being non-fiction. There was a card every now and then that made me wonder if Gary Larson was at work:

For the uninitiated Post Secret is a blog begun in 2005 by Frank Warren, who gave a platform for people’s secrets. Once a week on Sunday, he posts 20 of the cards he receives. Yesterday the site celebrated a half billion visits, and almost countless blogs commemorated. Our own Funky Blue Dandelion was among them and with a little something more.

I have many more thoughts about the Post Secret dynamic, but I’m not quite sure they would fit on this blog.

As for the connection to Richard Armitage, isn’t he in the business of telling someone’s story? Oh yeah, he should be tagged in this post. :D

Do You Have a Guy Secret?

For those who aren’t Guy lovers, you won’t understand this post, but for those who are, I know some of you have a secret you’ve been keeping. A few Christmases ago, I felt like you:

Apparently Guy has been telling all of his secrets. They do say confession is good for the soul, and sometimes it can get you what you want. :D

Beginning today, feel free to email me your secret about Guy or Little Guy ala a PostSecret postcard. I’ll take them until Saturday at midnight (GMT+5), and then beginning on Sunday, I’ll put them up for votes. The one with the most votes by Monday at midnight (GMT+5) wins a brand spanking new Little Guy (see this post where I altered the deadline and the selection process some). In the meantime, please do not post them in comments, and keep it safe for work. Other than that, go for it!

Oh, and with respect to your anonymity, the winner cannot remain completely anonymous to me but certainly can to the general public. Also, if you want to enter anonymously and keep it that way unless you win, then make a temporary email account. With Gmail you can make almost as many accounts as you want, and the same may be true of Yahoo, just to name a couple.

Could I Blog About Richard Armitage Everyday?

WordPress is ready for 2012 with their kickoff of Project 365, and it’s had me musing about joining. It would be interesting to try it. Oh, heck yeah, I know how difficult it is to meet deadlines on a blog. Are you kidding me? I’ve now spent almost 21 months at this. It’s just, well, I want to get into really good blogging shape this year, and this is a good way to do it. My subject is certainly worthy, and there is a lot more to discuss. If someone can document “burger art” every day for a year, I think I could manage.

I know there’s not going to be much news about RA until near the end of the year, or will there be? Between you and me, I have yet to see a real drought. Of course I could be wrong, but wouldn’t you have fun watching me squirm to come up with posts? And things might get really silly, or maybe you would take pity and send me something to blog about.

Wonder if WordPress would include me in their line up for 2013 if I made my title ‘RAFrenzy 365’. Somehow I doubt it. But I’m giving this a shot, and really, it’s a public service for the new fans. :D

Of course I will take one day’s respite since 2012 is a leap year, and I’m going to cheat a little ’cause I can’t really talk about Richard Armitage every single day. There will probably be some reblogged posts as well. Just sayin’.
