Paging Dr. White

Elliott Lester
No, it’s not Dr. White but rather the guy who’s been teasing all of you on Twitter. Who I think is a cutie as well as a tease.

Oh you don’t like my title ’cause the doctor is not that kind of doctor? Wait. Someone else says, “Go ahead and page him. We wanna see what he looks like!” I’m not sure I can satisfy the lust for info, but a fan sent me a couple of pics of the film set she literally happened on. She had gone to the venue to see a sporting event and then noticed there was something else going on. She was kind enough to share some long distance shots from her phone:

206

207

And the fan who took these had a friend and recent recruit to the Armitage Army with her. To quote the friend, “He is hot! and better looking in real life.”

Okay, so they’re not the greatest shots of Richard, but if you were overwhelmed by the presence of himself when you weren’t expecting to be, could you really get a good shot? Yeah, that’s what I thought. :D

Dear Elliott:

Please don’t change Richard’s character’s name. “White Hot” is too good to ignore. The Army can have a field day with that. But we need a clear picture, man, or do you want us to apply our imaginations to this thing?

Signed,
One of Richard’s crazy fans who is dreaming up all sorts of ways to mine the name ‘white,’ but I may not publish any of them; just entertain myself dreaming them up. ;-)

P.S. Are you ready for the fangirl deluge?

Angie: I throw this out to you: we need a graphic stat! :D

To the rest of you: Okay, so yeah, the title is cheesy. How do you think I get back in the flow of this craziness?!

edit: ArmitageBesotted and I were recently talking about the misuse of there, their and they’re. So what do I do? Misuse the hell out of it in this post. LOL!!

Timeout for a Timeout

OnLocation-UrbanAtShedCrewtwitter-08Apr14Have you ever been so tired at the end of the day you didn’t care if you ate or bathed? You were like a homing pigeon focused on making it to a certain place, and that would be the bed? And you had to be focused ’cause you were so whipped that any distraction would have completely taken you off task?

Yeah, I know some of you have been that tired, and tonight I’m so there. My whole goal in the next half hour is to make it to bed. A few minutes ago the doorbell rang, and of course no one else is home to answer it. I flirted with the idea of ignoring it and proceeding onto my bedroom, but I felt bad about doing that and decided to see who it was. I’m so glad I didn’t blow it off, ’cause I opened the front door and lo and behold it was my ass finally getting home.

I really am tired tonight. It’s a good tired but a very real tired, so any speculation about Richard Armitage’s future plans will have to wait until tomorrow — at least for me.

And hey, we may hear something between now and then, and a very good chance it will be by the end of this month.

Rich,

I hope you’re taking a timeout too after that hellacious schedule for The Crucible.

I would write more, but man, my brain hasn’t gotten home yet. I hope it shows up before morning.

Goodnight,
A crazy…oh to hell with it; I’m to bed.

I hope one of you will wake me if something really interesting happens. :D

Richard Really is My Kind of Guy!

Richard Armitage with a sense of zany. My god he’s broken out of the “Brooding Mr. Darcy I’m too smart and sophisticated to get outrageous” kind of humor. Loving this.

Rich,

I’m so proud of you for not being intellectual all the time, and I swear this is not going to kill any of your brain cells no matter how much crying you hear from some quarters.

Oh, you’ve been this way all along? I figured as much. :D

Signed,
One of your crazy fans who wishes she had figured out sooner not to take herself so seriously all the time.

P.S. Is this another charity challenge? Inquiring minds can’t help but ask. ;-)

Richard Armitage Into the Storm — Spoilers

Into-the-storm-bus-740x493

Oh you thought I was still talking about his swirling around in the Twitterverse? No, a few tweets hardly qualify as a storm. A nice summer rain? Yeah. However, his followers have certainly created a vortex. What exactly that means I’m sure we’ll eventually know. :D

In the meantime, I have a little something to say about Richard’s performance in his latest movie (I already said something about everyone else here). A few minutes after watching the movie, I was bursting with thoughts to express. A veritable flood, and then the turbulence in my mind subsided, and I knew what I wanted to talk about. Not the accent, not the everyman hero, not the vice principal who looked like no vice principal I had ever seen, not the near miss with the meteorologist. No, none of that. I wanted to address a very pivotal point in the movie — the escape from the school.

I happen to know a little something about driving a school bus in adverse conditions (don’t ask me what ’cause I might explain), so when I saw Richard driving (okay, maybe he wasn’t driving. He just looked like he was, or maybe he really was. I would love to know.), my mind came alive, and I couldn’t help but think a little something extra could have been done to aid in frustrating the twister. But what?! Then the answer came to me. It’s the answer to everything. And it can totally be done in a school bus. Go here, and take your time. I’ll wait.

What did I tell you?! Can you see it? The beauty of it is indescribable, so I’ll spare you. Oh hell, watch it again, and this time “be the bus.”

Dear Richard,

If you ever find yourself in a school bus scene again, please call me. I know all sorts of maneuvers. I can drive a school bus in and out of anything except maybe a flock of sheep. Not the stuff dreams are made of. ;p

Sheep are tough especially if they’re going the same direction as the bus. But if they’re going the opposite direction, it is fun to observe.

Call me. ;-)

Signed,

One of your crazy fans who really can drive in some hairy stuff; think whiteout at 10,000 ft.

P.S. I’ll be buying the DVD for further study. :D

P.P.S. Beverly Farr has some thoughts on the movie as well.

I cannot believe it’s time for school to start again! I ask myself every year why I’m still driving, but I love it. The kids really are so much fun to observe. Of course I have to get my bluff in on them during the first few weeks of school. After that, everything is great. One of my favorite experiences with my kids, and this happens a few times a year:

note: I am going to write a serious post about my impressions of Richard in this movie but not yet.

Richard Armitage in the Fray

2IJOqmmzSo it seems Richard Armitage joined Twitter on his birthday. I said a long time ago, “Don’t do it, Richard!” But hey, if he’s there, and it seems he is, let’s have some fun with him. :D

First Tweet:

And now for what was formerly called a fake fan letter, and maybe will remain; depends on Rich:

Richard,

I’m staking my stellar reputation on believing your Twitter account is legit. Given that belief, I have a birthday present, which I thought about mailing to you, but hey, since you’re here with the rest of us nuts, I’ll just give it to you now. A tweet seen round the world from a man who saw the opening night of The Crucible. It gave us longtime fans great vindication.

Hope you enjoy that well deserved praise.

Signed,
One of your crazy fans

P.S. I hope you don’t make a liar out of me and prove to be a fake.

Finally Saw Into the Storm

into-the-storm-matt-walsh

SO and I were finally able to see this movie last night. And here’s a one sentence review for those in a hurry: I liked it!

Yep, that’s right, a Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, Charlotte Bronte’ loving fan likes her some action adventure. Psst: don’t tell the action fans or it will spoil my image, but then I did say there is one way to turn us hopeless romantics into action fans. But that’s not the only reason in this case.

Into the Storm is a great summer ride, which is exactly what I thought it was going to be, and I was not disappointed. As well, I agree with several fans who said Max Deacon did a great job. We will certainly be seeing more of him. I also thought the rest of the cast did well. I already liked Matt Walsh. I knew almost nothing about Sarah Wayne Callies, and now I know something, and I like her. She can fawn over Richard any day of the week. Just wish it were in a movie. LOL! I also liked Alycia Debnam-Carey and Arlen Escarpeta. Both of them held their own. Jeremy Sumpter played the perfect guy caught in something bigger than he was, and Kyle Davis and Jon Reep were a scream. Their characters Donk and Reevis were the perfect comic relief.

But I adored Nathan Kress. I had never seen much of anything with him except when I was briefly passing through the room where my youngest child was watching iCarly a few years ago. I’ll have to think about exactly what it was about Nathan, but for now, the few times he was heard or seen, his charisma was huge!

I’ll cover Richard in another post.

Dear Mr. Garner,

Thank you, thank you for the ride. All of it. I know other fans have already thanked you for all the fun we’ve had, but I had to do it too. And Into the Storm was worth the $11.50 admission + $10.00 for popcorn and a drink x 2. My SO and I had a lot fun, and I even got a little choked during one scene and did not expect that. LOL!

Thanks again,
One of Richard’s crazy fans

P.S. SO felt the same about the movie. I was going to ask him to write a review, but I cheated last time with the first Hobbit movie. :D

Bracing Myself, But Not Quite Yet

Since I’m up again at 3am and bored out of my mind, I come with a revision to a theory. About two weeks ago, I said that we would get news of Richard Armitage’s next project by the end of this month and a good chance it would happen by the middle of the month. I may be erroneously second guessing myself, but I’m going to revise that prediction to the end of September.

I’m changing the timelines because I forgot something key in how Richard Armitage generally does things with his work. And as he’s a creature of habit like most of us, I think he’ll stick to this pattern with his next project. I think an announcement will be more likely in September because we won’t hear anything until it’s something he is already doing or very near doing by the time we hear about it. That means it has to be after The Crucible ends. Yep, that’s what I’m thinking. Any thoughts on what this could be? I’ve been leaning toward the Uhtred role, but I haven’t been paying as much attention to what’s out there as I used to, so I’m curious what y’all think.

Richard,

I’d be happy for you to make a liar out of me and announce something in the next two weeks. Whatever you end up doing, do you think in all your negotiations that you could have mercy on the North American bunch and have a run in The Crucible in New York sometime in the next year? I heard there wasn’t going to be a DVD, so I’m really smarting and need a fix with a live performance.

Signed,
Your Crazy Fan who would gladly make a trip to NYC to see you. :D

P.S. I don’t care when the performance is. I’m just anxious.

Note: I love the pensive photo of Richard, but I honestly don’t know whom to credit for it or the enhancement to it. Help me if you know. Thanks.

What’s Important to Me

I’m on my way out of town to an appointment that is one of the most crucial to SO and myself. He may get a pancreas transplant, and when I think about that, it’s really hard for me to get worked up about Richard Armitage’s love life. Seriously. I just can’t process it as anything that concerns me.

Also, I’m just happy my kids are happy, and three of them are together in NYC (my son went to visit his sisters, my two oldest daughters who live there). They just sent me a picture of them in front of a building where we rented an apartment during one summer when they were all still at home. A neat little place on East 52nd next door to the River House. Very cool address. That summer changed their perspective radically and their lives irrevocably. I’m glad. I’m tickled, and don’t they look happy? This is what matters to me.

mykids

Richard,

I don’t know what’s important to you, but life is too short to sweat over things that don’t matter. That’s not referring to you, but I hope encourages you.

Signed,
A Crazy Fan who is so sane when it comes to family and what really counts it would probably make your head spin.

P.S. Still wish I could see The Crucible, but oh well. Maybe later.

And It Keeps Coming

Living through the last six weeks has been rough and today especially so. The Old Vic sent me an email. They do that from time to time when you join their cause. Oh, I appreciate the emails, and under normal circumstances I would be happy to read a notice or two they want to give me. But it’s really hard to witness all the goings on about The Crucible and not being able to fully join in and getting mail from The Old Vic is just a reminder of all that I’m missing. Frankly, I would almost give my eye teeth to go to a performance. Of course it wouldn’t matter if I did because SO would kill me when I got back home.

And those reviews!

The-Crucible-Reviews

And that’s just The Old Vic’s side of the pond! I seem to remember a few on my side that were pretty complimentary. Hear that, Old Vic? Come to New York and soon! I have a feeling you will, and I was pretty heartened by this and some other rhetoric I’ve heard from the New York theater community which indicates there is a pretty good chance of this happening. The only question is whether Richard will be involved.

If I know him, and yes, I do a bit after all this time of watching a lot of his cussed moves, he will not let any grass grow under his feet, and we may well be hearing any day now what he’s about to do next. No, seriously, I’m thinking before the end of August we’ll be hearing about it. *Looks at watch* Yep, end of August drop dead. Probably mid-August. Anyway, The Old Vic needs to jump on it and have him locked in for next year or whenever.

None of that is to say this next announcement will be about a production in New York. No, it will probably be something different. Uhtred perhaps? Or is Richard past all that and now onto more intellectually stimulating fare? I do wonder these things when I have time to wonder, which I don’t as often these days, and that’s a good thing, ’cause if I did have time to really ponder with any depth all that’s going on with Richard, this email from The Old Vic would send my frustration through the roof:

Richard Armitage Conversations

Damn, I wish I had been to see the play, but I’m glad some of you have been able to see it and thoroughly enjoy it. That warms my heart because well, I’m proud of our guy and any adulation he gets which celebrates his talent is a thrill. No snark there. It really does warm my heart that he’s doing so well. I’m not sure I feel motherly about it but maybe.

Dear Rich,

May I say I always knew you had it in you. Or at least after I watched John Standring. I suspected before Standring. John Thornton was breathtaking, but I chalked that up to being enthralled by a great love story. Harry Kennedy was another thrill, but there wasn’t enough to convince that the depths of your talent were so great. Then came Guy. You didn’t stint even on that silly piece. But it was John Standring that made me a fan for life. I knew then you were made of something far more than a heartthrob. And I’d like to think I would never be this enthusiastic over a mere heartthrob. So your success is my vindication. Thanks for that. And hell, I haven’t even seen the play.

All the best,
A Crazy Fan who looks forward to more of your stellar work; see, see, you’ve set the bar damn high, my friend

More info here about Richard Armitage in Conversation. Maybe you’ll break down and join The Old Vic? Hmm.

Colliding Identities

RichardArmitage as SvengaliSeveral people sent me links to the newest interview with Richard Armitage. I finally read it yesterday, and then googled the journalist’s name, because I will admit unashamedly I didn’t know who she was. No, I am not cosmopolitan enough to be aware of all these journalists and their quests to capture the zeitgeist. But I digress.

There was a little angst going on in what I was reading. The almost palpable need to set someone or something straight was coming indignantly off the page toward me. Self-righteousness like that usually gets a negative reaction. “Judge not lest ye be judged…” kind of runs through my head, and I want to apply “the same measure” to the offender (no pun intended). I try to resist that, and I’m resisting today mainly because it’s not beneficial. If you don’t know what I’m referring to, oh well.

Mostly, I care what I think. Richard Armitage is something amongst actors I had never seen before. Many of us had never seen his like, and when I say that I’m not talking about his sexiness and the objectifying response that can provoke. I’m thinking of his ability to pierce reality with an elegant sword. Most actors I’ve seen use a club. But to be pricked with something powerful that is there and gone and you try to bring it back so you can take it apart to examine it and understand it and maybe recapture its sweetness, doesn’t happen very often. It’s special.

The journalist didn’t get this, because she couldn’t seem to get much past his pretty face or us. Maybe she didn’t have time to really understand him or us. Maybe she was under a deadline and worked with what she had. I know a couple of journalists reading this who are going to laugh at that notion. But hey, I’m trying to be charitable here. However, I believe she is like many in the press who don’t get Richard Armitage, because they have also never seen his like — someone who is himself, someone not easily whipped into bits of identity for quick public consumption. Is there any doubt that article was an attempt at a whipping?

What can be worse for a journalist than to ever think they don’t understand something or someone enough to make it into a tidy pronouncement? That is anathema and has to gall someone whose business is mostly summing up things and people. Yet how wonderful it would have been if she had seemed at least fair about who he has demonstrated himself to be over the course of years while passing judgment. There was almost none of that, and what was there seemed almost grudging and therefore a bit disingenuous, or maybe she’s just a poor writer. I honestly don’t know.

But I do know the summation was cliched. What else explains the portrayal of Richard Armitage as Svengali right down to the damn photo. LOL! (Sorry, I really did laugh. When I start writing as a journalist for a big time newspaper, I won’t throw in that kind of commentary. ;-) ) Like many of you I wondered about the graphic used in the article, but the text makes it obvious. He’s Svengali and those who find him appealing are Trilby — no good at anything really unless he hypnotizes us into thinking we are. How sad the interviewer was so afraid to let herself really observe someone like Richard. But then prejudice has always been fueled by fear.

Instead we got something intended to be a bit of an expose’ but sounded more like real fiction at times. And that got me to thinking. To thinking what has occurred to me on a few occasions when I’ve encountered someone who was so adamantly not a fan. The fear of truly observing someone like Richard Armitage is that he may cast a spell on the observer, and they may actually lose their godlike objectivity. Or they are closet fans desperately trying to appear fair. Yeah, I know the signs. I’ve been there. Whatever the case, this is what I long to say:

Ms. Gold,

You are missing out. Being innocent is not so bad, and really, if this is what it feels like, I want more of it.

Signed,
One of Richard’s crazy fans who is having a whale of a time :D

P.S. I don’t think your insult of Richard Armitage is going to have any impact on your career. You know that. But insulting Dawn French and overweight women? That was dumb and tipped your hand more than anything you said.

If you want to read the article, Guylty has it here.
