Aspiring Armitage — Part 1

January 27, 2012

This week as with all weeks in RA Universe, there is discussion about Richard Armitage and his roles, and how he may or may not have succeeded, and what will he do in the future, and I don’t know the answer to all of that. I doubt any fans do, but of course it’s fascinating to speculate. With respect to his not meeting expectations as an actor for some, the success of his first leading role in ‘North and South’ has a little something to do with setting expectations unrealistically. That role would have been hard for anyone to follow not to mention dealing with the fan reaction. If he had been an egoist or his agent encouraged him to be one, he might have handled it all differently. He might have appeared more polished, more on top of his game, more homogenized, which so many of us have come to expect and swallow and then move on.

But he seemed to come with unmanufactured responses which gave credence to his being like the rest of us and not knowing quite what to do with his situation. He’s also gone so far as to tell us he’s a slow mover. Not in terms of his ability to think or his stamina, but in terms of exposure to life and fleshing out his identity as an actor and as a person. Upon first reading those statements, I thought it was nothing but self-deprecation in a cagey attempt to set the bar low enough not to disappoint the public in future, which is fine. But I’ve pondered them quite a bit since then, and there is something that smacks of normal. I know there is no such thing, but he seems to continually manifest a sense of “I need to step back and take stock of what’s going on,” which is a type of sanity we know instinctively when we encounter it. The world of drama doesn’t seem to be replete with that, so he stands out. Or maybe it’s just to me. Then again, he might be a better actor than I realize. When he whips that look of a mind reader onto the camera, I start second guessing myself. LOL!

I Can’t Keep Up!

Ever feel like all these blogs and forums and websites are too much, oh my?! They probably are, so guess what? Don’t even try to keep up. Read, or listen or watch what you can. You are not obligated to read all of this stuff, and the moment you have that thought, step away from your PC, your Mac, your phone, your iPad, your kid’s DSI…. Go outside and inhale some fresh air. Then come back in and eat something really decadent that is not on your diet. After that, you won’t feel like you’re overdoing the web. You can come back to your system and look up great diet sites that have wonderful tips on how to keep from overeating, which you may never use, but it makes you feel good to read them. See how useful the web can be?

By the way, I had a great piece for yesterday to celebrate Martin Luther King’s birthday, but I got caught up in reading and watching so much that I never posted it. And posting at 11:55pm didn’t seem it would have the same effect. Maybe next year for that piece. Oh my God! Did I just commit to another year of this?!! Someone slap me.

Oh yeah, I’m putting the Richard Armitage tag on this ’cause he’s an eater like Nigella Lawson. The dude likes food and hasn’t been able to keep that knowledge to himself. Just one more thing to love about him. :D

I had to post that screencap again. :D

And I can’t tell you who is the winner of the Guy Secrets contest, but it’s someone with big plans for Little Guy:

She will join a host of others who have no shame about their love for Little Guy:

Dhana, who was not content with just a Little Guy. She made a Little Lucas too complete with pea coat. :D

Kiteflier, whose Little Guy escapades were the first I saw in 2008. Don’t be a snob and miss out on that!

Some other exploits of Little Guy are in the Robin Hood folder on C19.

I’m sure there are some I missed. Feel free to show us your Little Guy! :D

For those who did not win, thank you for your entries and don’t despair. There will be another Little Guy contest sometime! In the meantime, some ‘i’ dotting and ‘t’ crossing for those who may wonder.

The above is a screencap of the random selection. Number five in the slideshow was chosen.

Other than all of that, can someone tell me the absolute best way to ship a package to Italy. I’m thinking Fedex but open to better suggestions.

edit: I may have met my quota for at least six months on the use of the words “Little Guy”.

Filed Under ‘Who Gives a Damn’

So many things happen that are in my face but thankfully don’t faze me — much. The day they really do faze me is the day I need to get a life. You thought I didn’t have a life because I run a blog about Richard Armitage? ROFLOL!! Yes, I actually am on the floor, and it’s hell typing from that angle, but see, see what I do for the readers! Umph. Aaah! That’s better. Back in an upright position.

A few things that make me glad I’m not a teen or 20 something, and apologies to all of you who are that age and feel the same:

The Biggest Celebrity Breakups of 2011 — not sure which one on the list makes me yawn more. I’m embarrassed to admit I knew most people on that list although some did elicit, “Huh?” Yes, I realize it’s a 2011 list, but it keeps popping up on mainstream news sites I’m reading. Apparently, places like MSNBC think it’s still newsworthy.

The Kardashians — this says it best:

I could go on, but I think you get the point, and some of you may be wondering why I’m even posting this. For fun. Hell, what good are these things if I can’t make fun of them. And yeah, I was dying to use that Kardashian video. :D

You should thank me for not inflicting Justin Bieber on you. Or maybe I’m the only one who feels this way?

A picture to cleanse your palate:

It is a fan blog about Richard Armitage, so I was obligated, but really, isn’t he a breath of fresh air?

Note: made a new tag, Who Gives a Damn

And Some Thanks

I should have put this in the last post!

Thank you to all of you who have been reading my blog. In 26 days, I have gotten 26,000 hits or 1,000 hits a day on average. Some of that was due to ‘The Hobbit’ trailer, but candidly, that only lasted a few days. The rest are people coming back to read and subscribe. 60 additional subscriptions in those 26 days. I very much appreciate that! Can’t tell you how much! It will certainly help in propelling me forward in my 365 Project. Otherwise, it would just be me listening to myself talk, and that’s not much fun. More than me being heard, this gives such a great pleasure to meet so many other fans. I can’t say enough good about that. It also gives the ability to introduce some of you to other bloggers who are much more interesting than me. No, I’m not being self-deprecating. I mean that. There are some interesting folk who are Richard Armitage fans. I’m happy to be a conduit for them — except when I want to get on my high horse about such things as SOPA. Then I want you to listen to me. :D

Can you tell I’m trying to get you in a Guy mood? Hope it’s working.

For those contemplating entering the Little Guy contest but not sure, I have a post for you later today or maybe tomorrow morning.

Playing Catchup Has Never Been This Fun

From mid August to mid December, I was not very attentive to RA Universe, and I’m still terribly behind on my reading. But I am making up for lost time, and the blog pieces I’m reading are wonderfully done. Stay tuned for when I cheat a little and reblog some of what others have written. My biggest problem is deciding what to highlight first. Other bloggers have referenced and even highlighted some of these pieces, but that was their highlight and not mine. :D

And for the record, I was so right about giving Phylly the Do Wah Diddy Diddy Award. More on that later.

I also made several promises last year that I intend to make good on this year. No, that’s not a burden. It will be a joy. One of those is the Little Guy contest. More on that later today.

A picture to wake you up in case this post is not enough:

Phew! that look would wake up most. :D

People, People, People

I know Peter Jackson won’t allow any photography from the winner of the Charity Auction! I was kidding about getting some pictures. It was just a joke. Honest.

Although if I were a winner, I might be tempted to take one of these to NZ:

No, not the matchstick. That thing above it — the camera. :D Of course I would also have to get a fake id and board a plane under false pretenses, so that I wouldn’t have to sign my real name on the non-disclosure agreement. LOL!

Watch someone take this seriously. Haven’t you learned anything about this blog?

Maybe a disclaimer to Sir Peter will soothe you:

Dear Sir Peter,

I like to tease which you may not realize since you have absolutely no clue about me or this blog. Thank Heaven! But if for some reason you do, ignore me.

Signed,
A fan, but I am not at liberty to say who I am a fan of at the moment. It’s all very secret so that no one will feel funny, ever, about anything.

So the letter to Sir Peter didn’t work?

Maybe a picture will put you in a better mood:

Oh, you’re still reading, Sir Peter. Well, pay no attention to the picture. It’s just a photo of a pleasant looking chap who could pass for some guy named Richard Armitage.

Let’s Do Lunch?

If you have ever wondered what RA frenzy really looks like, see what Calexora is proposing. I just have one thing to say about it. If you go, get some pictures and video for us! :D

But candidly, this is so majestic and lush (click to enlarge photos):

not to mention this:

that Callie might not be that crazy. :D

ROFLOL!!!!!!!!!!

Ahem. I couldn’t help that even though I know some of you like this look.

Now that I’m reasonably sure my laptop will survive, I’ll take my leave for the evening. :D

edit: back this morning, and I have many more thoughts about these photos coming up in the next post. For now I’ll say that they have struck at something I was going to talk about more in-depth at some point — Richard’s ability to immerse himself so completely in a character. More soon. For now, I have to go drive around on the side of a mountain.

Could I Blog About Richard Armitage Everyday?

WordPress is ready for 2012 with their kickoff of Project 365, and it’s had me musing about joining. It would be interesting to try it. Oh, heck yeah, I know how difficult it is to meet deadlines on a blog. Are you kidding me? I’ve now spent almost 21 months at this. It’s just, well, I want to get into really good blogging shape this year, and this is a good way to do it. My subject is certainly worthy, and there is a lot more to discuss. If someone can document “burger art” every day for a year, I think I could manage.

I know there’s not going to be much news about RA until near the end of the year, or will there be? Between you and me, I have yet to see a real drought. Of course I could be wrong, but wouldn’t you have fun watching me squirm to come up with posts? And things might get really silly, or maybe you would take pity and send me something to blog about.

Wonder if WordPress would include me in their line up for 2013 if I made my title ‘RAFrenzy 365’. Somehow I doubt it. But I’m giving this a shot, and really, it’s a public service for the new fans. :D

This will be me at the beginning:

Probably me somewhere in the middle:

and we’ll see what I am at the end.

Of course I will take one day’s respite since 2012 is a leap year, and I’m going to cheat a little ’cause I can’t really talk about Richard Armitage every single day. There will probably be some reblogged posts as well. Just sayin’.

Hang on while I begin flexing my blogging muscles.
