You Just Think You’re Not a Gaga Fan

No, this isn’t more about the perception of fans. This is another post in the series of Musicilove and not much related to Richard Armitage except a cello.

Several years ago I stumbled onto Vitamin String Quartet. They are a group of musicians in Los Angeles who have done countless covers of classic rock artists. My first introduction was to their arrangement of a favorite Nirvana song:

I’ve listened to literally hundreds of their covers and love quite a few, but my favorites are from the Gaga album that came out in 2010. Many reading this blog like Lady Gaga’s music, but there are a few of you who have dismissed her because of her silliness and only see something like this in your mind’s eye when her name is mentioned:

Lady Gaga riding a zip line into a show for Good Morning America in Bryant Park in NYC

Don’t let that keep you from listening. Trust me. You’re going to like it:

You can check out their other albums here, and give yourself plenty of time. It’s easy to get lost there. They have everything from 30 Seconds to Mars to Adele to Elton John to Pink Floyd to Metallica, and on and on and on. But they don’t have Britney Spears which is surprising. No problem. YouTube has everything. :D

note: Vitamin String does have one song by Britney. I want an album! LOL!

I had to post that screencap again. :D

And I can’t tell you who is the winner of the Guy Secrets contest, but it’s someone with big plans for Little Guy:

She will join a host of others who have no shame about their love for Little Guy:

Dhana, who was not content with just a Little Guy. She made a Little Lucas too complete with pea coat. :D

Kiteflier, whose Little Guy escapades were the first I saw in 2008. Don’t be a snob and miss out on that!

Some other exploits of Little Guy are in the Robin Hood folder on C19.

I’m sure there are some I missed. Feel free to show us your Little Guy! :D

For those who did not win, thank you for your entries and don’t despair. There will be another Little Guy contest sometime! In the meantime, some ‘i’ dotting and ‘t’ crossing for those who may wonder.

The above is a screencap of the random selection. Number five in the slideshow was chosen.

Other than all of that, can someone tell me the absolute best way to ship a package to Italy. I’m thinking Fedex but open to better suggestions.

edit: I may have met my quota for at least six months on the use of the words “Little Guy”.

I’m Feeling Alternately Relieved and Apprehensive

Since I posted about a certain celebrity, I’m getting some bizarre search referrals. Some make me snicker, some make me gasp, and some make me scratch my head. But all of it makes me realize I have never been privy to this kind of examination of Richard Armitage. The one who will not be named has some seriously rabid fans. Oh yeah, “peaches” are tame by comparison. So rest easy my fellow fangirls; I don’t think we have anywhere near the craziness going on that the man who likes to wear a kilt has.

I’m starting to feel a little sorry for him, and of course can’t help but wonder when all of this craziness will hit the object of our affection. Will this still be fun when it does? I honestly don’t know. I do know one thing though. You think I’m snarky now? When that fodder comes into my path, I will not be able to resist it. Just giving warning.

Yes, yes, yes, we need a picture!

Of course I know G*rry has some very nice fans, and the ones reading this are probably thinking, “Just wait; you’ll find out what it’s like!” Oh my, I’m not sure I want to. At least we have until the fourth quarter before things get really nuts.

A Few Items of Note From Down Under

[Note: It’s come to my attention that I have misapplied the description of Oz to NZ and neither parties like it! So this post is now titled “A Few Items of Note From Down Under and Slightly to One Side.” Thank you for the suggestion, Maegwen. :D]

I was awaiting the return of Joanna Scarratt and her report from New Zealand. In my head the report had taken on a life of its own. For those not familiar, Joanna is part of the Brand Partnership Department at United Agents, and my snark gene wants to go off on what it means to develop Richard Armitage as a brand. Tough work but someone has to do it. And the report? Wonderfully brief. You can read here. It confirms the idea that the first rule of branding is to leave the public wanting more. :D Maybe a shirt color would have been welcomed. It’s amazing what my mind can do with that little.

The bidding on Peter Jackson’s offer to host two people on ‘The Hobbit’ set is final, and the amount was a bit surprising to me. I made the assumption it would end with a much higher figure. Surely someone will take issue with my expectations, but I can’t help my gut reaction: c’mon, people! it’s Peter Jackson! Then again Peter Jackson is more low key and under the radar at times than I first imagined, and I suspect this unassuming demeanor is part of his charming heritage as a Kiwi. Net: if I had known the bidding was within my capabilities, I might have bid. SO has always wanted to go to New Zealand.

If I ever do go to New Zealand, I have to visit Lake Wanaka. The area is very familiar since friends and some acquaintances have visited, and it’s also the home of Jossi Wells, who spends a lot of time in my neck of the woods and is very well known here:

New Zealand has been on my bucket list for years. It’s obviously a beautiful place, but frankly, so is the area where I live. So the attraction to the country is not just its beauty, and no, this has nothing to do with Richard Armitage. Of all the people I’ve met from New Zealand (both face to face and online), to a person they have been down-to-earth. That is quite a statement about the country. I may have said this before, but it doesn’t matter. It’s significant enough that it bears repeating.

Guy Secrets Are Up

This was tough. I received 20 cards and about 30 secrets in the Guy Secrets contest. Three cards were from people who decided not to have them published. No problem; I never want anyone to feel awkward. One card I already published, but the person doesn’t want to be in the contest. Two cards really weren’t appropriate. Censorship you say? Yes, and you can thank me now for it. LOL! Interesting what happens when you open up a contest to the entire web. Phew! Yes, I knew I was going to get something not fit for print. I’m lucky it was just two. :D

And there was a very interesting card that came in this morning. See if you can guess which one.

Go here to see the slideshow. It plays automatically, but you can hit pause if you like.

I’ll do a random selection, contact the winner, and announce Tuesday.

Oh Dear, Gerry!

I must:

Dear Gerry,

I feel for you, since you are a classic case of damned if you do/damned if you don’t. But you did say something, and now I have to make hay of it. Too good to pass up, and my mercenary gene is controlling today.

When I first saw the video of the Graham Norton show, I thought perhaps he had set you up and was in need of some payback, and maybe he is. But I can’t forget that you are a lawyer, and as such you know that highlighting your crazy fan is the perfect way to lay foundation (or continue to lay it) for any legal action should she even think about stepping over a line. Definitely worth some short lived fan angst.

Of course I could be completely wrong, but I wasn’t raised by a lawyer for nothing.

None of that is the point of this letter. I was wondering if sometime you might run into Richard Armitage and advise him — as a fellow actor and certainly not as a lawyer. ;-)

Signed,
One of Richard’s crazy fans, who is too clever to ever out herself.

P.S. I’m also struggling with Armitage Protection Mode today, so have some pity on me.

P.P.S. I liked ‘The Ugly Truth’. :D

Oh yes, it’s a fake fan letter, and if Richard Armitage doesn’t read all of this crap, Gerard Butler certainly doesn’t. So relax.

A picture for your troubles?

Sweet Harry Kennedy is good for what ails you, and this is in my top five most favorite pictures of Richard Armitage. I’ve got to do a piece on this picture alone. :D

Okay, okay, one for the Gerard Butler fans too:

Interrupting Your Fangurling With an Important Message

I was just reading Calexora’s piece about quitting her blog. I’m sorry she feels bad. We are all entitled to our feelings, and no one should be made to feel bad about feeling bad, which I hope this post does not do, but her post begs a response. No, that wasn’t snark although it does sound like it. What I’m getting at is that I respect her decision, but I also want to address some of the issues she raised.

Can there be crazy fans who deserve a celebrity’s contempt? Yes, and in the case of Gerard Butler, I understand it. Awhile back I was looking for a picture of Richard Armitage on Photobucket and landed on an album with basically stalking pictures of Gerard Butler. Phew! Scary shit. My gut tells me it’s the tip of the iceberg. So when ol’ Gerry made some cracks, I don’t blame him. As for Calexora, I’ve never gotten the impression she’s like the crazy fan Gerry finds amusing.

Onto Richard Armitage. He’s a helluva actor, and he’s been nice enough to communicate with his fan base. Let’s hope he never complains like Gerry’s doing, but if he does, that’s his business.

Mostly, the point of this piece is that it’s good to laugh, let’s enjoy each other, and NEVER take this stuff too seriously. Whether it’s fair or not, Richard Armitage is a diversion for me and not my life’s blood, and that fact should take nothing away from him.

Lastly, this idea that Richard Armitage reads our blogs is erroneous. It does not happen. So I hope some of you can rest easy with that — unless you were hoping he did. :D

edit: if you’re still taking this too seriously, see the comment section.

note: Calexora did eventually erase her blog, so that link above leads nowhere.

Filed Under ‘Who Gives a Damn’

So many things happen that are in my face but thankfully don’t faze me — much. The day they really do faze me is the day I need to get a life. You thought I didn’t have a life because I run a blog about Richard Armitage? ROFLOL!! Yes, I actually am on the floor, and it’s hell typing from that angle, but see, see what I do for the readers! Umph. Aaah! That’s better. Back in an upright position.

A few things that make me glad I’m not a teen or 20 something, and apologies to all of you who are that age and feel the same:

The Biggest Celebrity Breakups of 2011 — not sure which one on the list makes me yawn more. I’m embarrassed to admit I knew most people on that list although some did elicit, “Huh?” Yes, I realize it’s a 2011 list, but it keeps popping up on mainstream news sites I’m reading. Apparently, places like MSNBC think it’s still newsworthy.

The Kardashians — this says it best:

I could go on, but I think you get the point, and some of you may be wondering why I’m even posting this. For fun. Hell, what good are these things if I can’t make fun of them. And yeah, I was dying to use that Kardashian video. :D

You should thank me for not inflicting Justin Bieber on you. Or maybe I’m the only one who feels this way?

A picture to cleanse your palate:

It is a fan blog about Richard Armitage, so I was obligated, but really, isn’t he a breath of fresh air?

Change of Plan

Sometimes I am slow. Oh yeah, sometimes I darn near walk on water, but other times I’m just stupid.

The impressive Guy secret cards I’ve received have made me rethink the selection process. It’s not appropriate to garner votes for best secret given the nature of some of the cards. So they will now be numbered, and then the winner chosen by a random number generator. That way no one will feel any rejection. This contest was never designed to make anyone feel awkward but to merely have fun and connect with each other about something we might not be able to say without the cloak of anonymity, and yes, for some of the cards to be just bullshit. Some are. :D

For those who want to participate but feel they don’t have enough skill with graphics, I have some good news. There is no graphic experience required. All you need is either a scanner or a digital camera, some index cards and whatever supplies you might find around the house, e.g., old magazines, ribbon, markers, etc. Yes, you can also make a fancy graphic, but it’s not necessary. Also, there are free editors available such as FotoFlexr to change up a photo you may already have or snag one from the web. Here’s a submission below from someone who wanted to share but does not want to enter the contest since she already has a Little Guy. She took a photo and laid the print part over it, scanned and emailed. That simple. She also could have taken a picture of it with a digital camera if she had not had access to a scanner.

Most important: I can’t even get to the submissions until tomorrow afternoon, so you actually have until 1:00pm (GMT+5) Sunday, January 8th. I’ll post them all sometime tomorrow evening. That’s a little less than 24 hours to enter, so be bold and make a card, and I’ll help you any way that I can. Send me a note if you need some help.

For those who have entered, you should have received an email confirmation from me. If you haven’t, I didn’t receive your entry. If you just sent me your secret but no card, you need to send the secret on a card. I’m pretty sure I’ve responded to everyone who did this and gave you a chance to make a card. If you haven’t heard from me, again, I didn’t get your entry. And for those who sent some cards but don’t want to enter for a Little Guy, I’m posting those too — unless you say no.

And Some Thanks

I should have put this in the last post!

Thank you to all of you who have been reading my blog. In 26 days, I have gotten 26,000 hits or 1,000 hits a day on average. Some of that was due to ‘The Hobbit’ trailer, but candidly, that only lasted a few days. The rest are people coming back to read and subscribe. 60 additional subscriptions in those 26 days. I very much appreciate that! Can’t tell you how much! It will certainly help in propelling me forward in my 365 Project. Otherwise, it would just be me listening to myself talk, and that’s not much fun. More than me being heard, this gives such a great pleasure to meet so many other fans. I can’t say enough good about that. It also gives the ability to introduce some of you to other bloggers who are much more interesting than me. No, I’m not being self-deprecating. I mean that. There are some interesting folk who are Richard Armitage fans. I’m happy to be a conduit for them — except when I want to get on my high horse about such things as SOPA. Then I want you to listen to me. :D

Can you tell I’m trying to get you in a Guy mood? Hope it’s working.

For those contemplating entering the Little Guy contest but not sure, I have a post for you later today or maybe tomorrow morning.
