Damn That Richard Armitage

Of course I don’t mean that the way it sounds, but sometimes I do. I’m actually thinking of going to New York. In my defense, I have a frequent flyer that I’m going to lose if I don’t use it, and I have two places I can stay. No, make that three, and I have an old friend who owes me an expensive dinner (maybe three or four cheap dinners instead?), and last but not least my two very compelling reasons are there. So yeah, I think that sounds good. Maybe. Still not sure about that.

As if that’s not enough, I recently bought another copy of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It was the hard copy of the Extended Edition. That makes four different formats I will own. Not kidding when I say that I have never bought four copies of a movie. Wait. That’s a lie. I’ve bought six copies of a movie. Want to guess which one? Yeah, I didn’t think you would have trouble with that. But I must say that three of those were gifts. Wait. No, I’ve actually bought more than six. I bought, dare I say it? I’m not sure that I can. This is tough to write as it really does make me a nut! But I’ll confess to having bought almost 20 copies of North and South.

I feel like an utter idiot if I really step back and think about that. Again, in my defense, I found a really good sale. Then I decided to send several copies to a list of folk I do not know along with letters that were hopefully humorous but sans the fruitcake. We’ll see how that turns out. ;-)

I told the addressees that Richard is something else and not to be put off by the pitiful looking photo on the DVD jacket, and I slipped in a secret weapon to ensure they knew I wasn’t exaggerating.

And if they don’t agree that it’s a secret weapon, then Richard’s not for them anyway. :D

note: if you want more scenes like those, then go buy The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition on iTunes. You may have to wait a freaking day to download it, but hey, it’s worth it. I even took down my firewall for this one.

Richard,

See what you can even manage to leverage out of a cheap skate?

Oh never mind, you already know I’m crazy

Dear Sir Peter, You’re Killing Me

Desolation of Smaug Poster

My power to resist temptation is under severe attack with Sir Peter’s bombshell about Desolation of Smaug. My ability to stay away from spoilers is certainly being destroyed, and I’ve been so good this year! But I have two very compelling reasons to make a foray into New York City, which has had me longing to go there anyway, and if I were to get lucky and be able to attend the live event on November 4th, well, that would just be icing. Who could turn that down? :D

Now we just need some details of how and where to attend this shindig.

Dear Sir Peter,

I look forward to hearing more information about this event — like how someone actually attends!

Also, I’ve been meaning to write to you about the Desolation of Smaug premiere. Let me be plain. We need details, Man. First up, is this event on November 4th the premiere? Or is the premiere going to be near Thanksgiving (in the U.S.), or maybe the same day as the wide release? Man, you are killing us with the suspense. Seriously! I thought you were going to spring something on us several days ago (like maybe during Comic-Con in NY), and even that would have been late in the game!

Okay, I’m not nearly as upset as I sound. :D I know you hate it when the fans will not be patient and let themselves be surprised. I get that frustration, but man, we’ve been patient. Don’t you think you’re carrying the suspense a bit too far?! Okay, okay, I’m really not that upset, really, but could you throw us all a few more crumbs about this “live event” so we have some clue how to plan?

Signed,
One of Richard’s crazy fans

P.S. Thank you for putting Richard Armitage in New York! Yes! Yes! Yes!

For further details on the November 4th fan event, be watching these spots: The Hobbit Movie’s official website, Twitter, Facebook.

edit: I knew it, I knew it, I knew it. LOL! Okay, so my timing was off, but I had a feeling TheOneRing was somehow going to be involved in something big that was coming. They’re giving away tickets here. Thanks to Servetus for the heads up.

Why do I think they are not the only ones giving these tickets away? Stay tuned.

note to TheQueen, do you have your suitcase ready? :D

Have You Signed Up for The Hobbit Visual Companion?

I just did it, and honestly, I’m hoping I win this for my 13 year old. She is the kind of child who will treat a book like this gently, and yes, she’s a Richard Armitage fan. She’s just bummed Lee Pace didn’t sign it. :D

Zombie Apocalypse Overcomes Regional Restrictions, Or I Want My TV Now!

A pivotal event is about to happen, and it comes none too soon. In fact, it’s several years late, but I’ll take it and hopefully it will lead to some relief of the frustration I vented earlier about the slow distribution of shows to other countries than their origin, and how this facilitated piracy, but it didn’t have to be that way. The Walking Dead wil be making global distribution of the new season within 24 hours of its release in the U.S.

“The Walking Dead” wakes up and fights piracy by releasing global versions earlier

jason-profileBy Jason Lynch

Jason Lynch is the former television editor at People magazine.

In the coming days, zombies are going to take over the world. Again.

On Sunday, the horror series The Walking Dead kicks off its fourth season on AMC, and its premiere episode is packed with stomach-churning gore, nail-biting suspense and of course, zombies galore. It’s a brutal, bloody show that is seemingly not for everyone—except that everyone seems to be watching. In March, the third season finale drew its largest audience ever, with 12.4 million viewers tuning in, and if the show’s viewing trends continue, Sunday’s ratings should be even higher.

But US audiences won’t be the only ones getting their zombie fix. Within 24 hours of its US premiere, international viewers in more than 125 different countries will be able to watch as well... read the rest here

Yippee! No, I’m not a watcher of The Walking Dead, but this is huge! May other producers be so overcome that they follow suit like lemmings. Are you hearing this, BBC?

Some of you may be thinking, “What’s the big deal? For years we’ve been watching shows from other countries shortly after their release.” Yeah, I know, but you weren’t accessing them through legal means, and if you were, it was usually with quite a delay in watching, and many shows were not dubbed into other languages. So this is new, and more important a sign that the networks are waking up to the fact that not only do viewers not want to wait for their tv, but they won’t!*

*Last year a new show called Touch had a simultaneous global release, so The Walking Dead is not breaking entirely new ground but rather will receive more attention for this phenomenon, and that’s a good thing!

Note: I’m debating about putting the Richard Armitage tag on this one. I’m not entirely sure that he’s going back to tv, but he’s the one who got me interested in watching tv again, and I have wondered why HBO Game of Thrones is following me when I have never written about that show. Interesting. Yeah, this is getting the tag. :D

On a related note: if you’re smart, and I assume all of you who read this blog are smart :D, and you like to invest in the stock market, I hope you are doing research on the revolution about to happen with Google TV and Apple TV. Many of you folks in Kansas City know what I’m talkin’ about.

Okay, I feel another tangent coming on, so I’ll stop that line of thought.

Dateline: New York Comic-Con

NYCC_2010_LogoI was not going to post this, but I can’t help myself. Since Peter Jackson announced the Hobbit cast would not be at San Diego Comic-Con, I’ve been thinking one or some of them would show up at the event in New York. I think it’s now a given that there will be some cast members there, but I’ve been telling TheQueen since July that I thought our guy or maybe even Peter Jackson would show up for this shindig. As it draws closer, my gut is screaming at me that something unexpected will happen. Maybe my gut needs to go back to sleep, but right now, I’ve got to do something to relieve its internal rumblings — hence this post.

For those who live in the tri-state area, you can get the skinny on New York Comic-Con over at TheOneRingnet. Unfortunately, the tickets are all sold out, but at least you’ll know which building it’s in so you can camp outside wait discreetly at a coffee shop nearby in hopes of seeing Richard or Sir Peter strolling down the street. Hey, it’s New York; it could happen. :D

Or you could just join the Ringer party. I think there are still tickets available. Even if the cast doesn’t show, this is a fun bunch.

And if Orlando Bloom doesn’t show up at some point, I’ll eat my hat. Yeah, so I don’t own a hat; you get the idea.

note: almost every time I’ve had this kind of feeling, it’s been correct. Now that I’ve published this, it will not happen. LOL! Maybe I should have just kept this to myself, but I needed some relief.

If nothing else so I can stop thinking about the dream I had the other night which featured this. Thanks, Jigga.

Having a Moment Over Here (or I’ll Have What She’s Having)

Richard Armitage has engendered all sorts of feelings, and many fans have spilled a lot of ink, as it were, over the phenomenon of these visceral reactions he provokes in us. May I say sincerely that the eloquence of some of you has moved me to the point of tears at times. I’m not kidding when I say that. Some of you have captured the feelings so well! But I love how this word sums it up.

Certainly, there are nostrilgasms and femurgasms and lots of other gasms going on, but they all lead to the Big One. :D

Some of you are thinking I’m nuts right now. You have read the “About” page of this blog haven’t you? Then you shouldn’t be surprised by this.

Back to business. I’ve been planning this post for almost two years and was going to sit on it a little longer, but I witnessed another Armigasm today, and I had to say something. Oh, you still don’t know what that is? Well, it’s when a fan is so overcome by thoughts of Richard, that they gush. I mean they gush and gush and gush and they can’t stop and don’t care who is nearby and they feel good when they’re done but also a little vulnerable. Totally natural.

I witnessed a few more of these later in the day, but hey, that’s all part and parcel of being a Richard Armitage fan. :D

And I hope everyone is lightened up about this and gets a chuckle out of the word that’s now in the lexicon.

My friend Pam at Meryton.com’s forum which is known as A Happy Assembly (or Aha. Indeed :D), gets the honors for coining Armigasm. And to get in on the hotbed of activity with all those Austen fans and maybe join the Order of the Cotton Drawers, you have to register over there.

note: I would link to the blogger whose writing prompted this post, but I’m not entirely sure she’s ready for that. She may need a day or two to recover. LOL!

The Real Guy?

I certainly enjoy this look of Richard Armitage. What fans wouldn’t enjoy seeing this?

Richard Armitage the Russian
but I love him best like this:

"Yeah, I'm listening." Small smile and then thinking, "Damn how long is this going to take?"

“Yeah, I’m listening.” Small smile and then thinking, “Damn how long is this going to take?”

This screams guy. Screams it more than the top photo, which is a woman’s version of a guy. :D

At the end of the day, Richard Armitage is a guy, and I love that. I was thinking about all of the men I know, who incidentally most are guys, and it occurred to me that not one of them would enjoy this. Of course they would be respectful but itching to get out of there! Even SO, who is a bit of a modern man, would hate this. He would probably find the process intriguing to watch, but to sit through it himself? No way in hell.

This juxtaposition of guy (alpha) and sensitive man (beta) is what makes Richard Armitage fascinating. Men who have a good balance of these are the most fascinating. Too much of one of these is boring (I think but I’m not sure that I’ve said this before. Wait. Yeah, here a long time ago. Like three years ago. Sheesh.) SO, my dad, SO’s dad and many other men I admire and respect have this balance. They are sensitive, kind and gentlemanly, love good art and music and books, but there’s no doubt they are (or were, in the case of my father who’s passed away) guys who draw the line at looking forward to something like this above. Nope, not happenin’.

Richard,

I feel your pain in this last photo. Not that you would care, but the godawful jacket and pants were enough to make me pained. No, no, I didn’t really say that. You just imagined it. You look good in anything.

Okay, seriousness, sort of. I could be so wrong about you, and I do believe pictures don’t always convey the truth, but my gut is telling me that you just endure this stuff. I’ve thought that for a long time. Maybe I need to think that ’cause if you really liked this fou fou stuff, then well, you aren’t my kind of guy. :D

Take care and may you not see a photoshoot for a good long while. Probably not going to happen, but I can wish it anyway,
One of your crazy fans

Richard Armitage, have sign, will…

Finally, an explanation of why Richard looked like a panhandler in his last interview:

I Knew I Liked You, Rich

Okay, I admit my last post title was blah, so I thought I would soup it up for this one. Yeah, this one isn’t that great either, but hey, I’m just now jumping into blogging again. I need some time.

No two photos have ever made me like Richard Armitage more than these two. I knew he had a BS detector, and these scream confirmation. And yes, I’m a dog person too. I guess that was obvious. :D

If I were really brave, I would add captions. I’m off to run an errand, and somewhere between now and when I return, I may gain more of a spine.

Oh, and for the record, I have not been through nine kinds of hell. Seven maybe but not nine.

Should I even put a link to the interview? Surely anyone reading this blog has read that thing and then some.

For posterity.

Richard has struck again

It seems our friend Todd Garner has been hit by the Armitage Effect. ;-)

What I want to know is whether Richard also subdues the Black Sky and Sarah Wayne Callies while he’s at it.

Aside: do you see how there is absolutely no need for Richard Armitage to be on Twitter? He’s put the whammy on all of us (I’m not complaining). Meanwhile, I would bet he’s dreaming somewhere.

Clever :D

Wait! a pic courtesy of Todd Garner. Thank you, Todd.

Rich,

I really do think you’re clever, and Todd Garner is no slouch himself.

Looking forward to this movie.

Signed,
One of your crazy fans

I can’t stand it. I had to blow it up:

RichardArmitage_as_GaryMorris_in_BlackSky

I never had a teacher who looked like that. No dreamboats at my high school. Yeah, it was dull.

And yeah, I need a slap. It’s late where I am, and I’ll probably regret this post in the morning, but for now, damn! this is fun. Definitely beats the hell out of what I’ve been doing the last few months.
