Interrupting Your Fangurling With an Important Message

I was just reading Calexora’s piece about quitting her blog. I’m sorry she feels bad. We are all entitled to our feelings, and no one should be made to feel bad about feeling bad, which I hope this post does not do, but her post begs a response. No, that wasn’t snark although it does sound like it. What I’m getting at is that I respect her decision, but I also want to address some of the issues she raised.

Can there be crazy fans who deserve a celebrity’s contempt? Yes, and in the case of Gerard Butler, I understand it. Awhile back I was looking for a picture of Richard Armitage on Photobucket and landed on an album with basically stalking pictures of Gerard Butler. Phew! Scary shit. My gut tells me it’s the tip of the iceberg. So when ol’ Gerry made some cracks, I don’t blame him. As for Calexora, I’ve never gotten the impression she’s like the crazy fan Gerry finds amusing.

Onto Richard Armitage. He’s a helluva actor, and he’s been nice enough to communicate with his fan base. Let’s hope he never complains like Gerry’s doing, but if he does, that’s his business.

Mostly, the point of this piece is that it’s good to laugh, let’s enjoy each other, and NEVER take this stuff too seriously. Whether it’s fair or not, Richard Armitage is a diversion for me and not my life’s blood, and that fact should take nothing away from him.

Lastly, this idea that Richard Armitage reads our blogs is erroneous. It does not happen. So I hope some of you can rest easy with that — unless you were hoping he did. :D

edit: if you’re still taking this too seriously, see the comment section.

note: Calexora did eventually erase her blog, so that link above leads nowhere.

Filed Under ‘Who Gives a Damn’

So many things happen that are in my face but thankfully don’t faze me — much. The day they really do faze me is the day I need to get a life. You thought I didn’t have a life because I run a blog about Richard Armitage? ROFLOL!! Yes, I actually am on the floor, and it’s hell typing from that angle, but see, see what I do for the readers! Umph. Aaah! That’s better. Back in an upright position.

A few things that make me glad I’m not a teen or 20 something, and apologies to all of you who are that age and feel the same:

The Biggest Celebrity Breakups of 2011 — not sure which one on the list makes me yawn more. I’m embarrassed to admit I knew most people on that list although some did elicit, “Huh?” Yes, I realize it’s a 2011 list, but it keeps popping up on mainstream news sites I’m reading. Apparently, places like MSNBC think it’s still newsworthy.

The Kardashians — this says it best:

I could go on, but I think you get the point, and some of you may be wondering why I’m even posting this. For fun. Hell, what good are these things if I can’t make fun of them. And yeah, I was dying to use that Kardashian video. :D

You should thank me for not inflicting Justin Bieber on you. Or maybe I’m the only one who feels this way?

A picture to cleanse your palate:

It is a fan blog about Richard Armitage, so I was obligated, but really, isn’t he a breath of fresh air?

Change of Plan

Sometimes I am slow. Oh yeah, sometimes I darn near walk on water, but other times I’m just stupid.

The impressive Guy secret cards I’ve received have made me rethink the selection process. It’s not appropriate to garner votes for best secret given the nature of some of the cards. So they will now be numbered, and then the winner chosen by a random number generator. That way no one will feel any rejection. This contest was never designed to make anyone feel awkward but to merely have fun and connect with each other about something we might not be able to say without the cloak of anonymity, and yes, for some of the cards to be just bullshit. Some are. :D

For those who want to participate but feel they don’t have enough skill with graphics, I have some good news. There is no graphic experience required. All you need is either a scanner or a digital camera, some index cards and whatever supplies you might find around the house, e.g., old magazines, ribbon, markers, etc. Yes, you can also make a fancy graphic, but it’s not necessary. Also, there are free editors available such as FotoFlexr to change up a photo you may already have or snag one from the web. Here’s a submission below from someone who wanted to share but does not want to enter the contest since she already has a Little Guy. She took a photo and laid the print part over it, scanned and emailed. That simple. She also could have taken a picture of it with a digital camera if she had not had access to a scanner.

Most important: I can’t even get to the submissions until tomorrow afternoon, so you actually have until 1:00pm (GMT+5) Sunday, January 8th. I’ll post them all sometime tomorrow evening. That’s a little less than 24 hours to enter, so be bold and make a card, and I’ll help you any way that I can. Send me a note if you need some help.

For those who have entered, you should have received an email confirmation from me. If you haven’t, I didn’t receive your entry. If you just sent me your secret but no card, you need to send the secret on a card. I’m pretty sure I’ve responded to everyone who did this and gave you a chance to make a card. If you haven’t heard from me, again, I didn’t get your entry. And for those who sent some cards but don’t want to enter for a Little Guy, I’m posting those too — unless you say no.

And Some Thanks

I should have put this in the last post!

Thank you to all of you who have been reading my blog. In 26 days, I have gotten 26,000 hits or 1,000 hits a day on average. Some of that was due to ‘The Hobbit’ trailer, but candidly, that only lasted a few days. The rest are people coming back to read and subscribe. 60 additional subscriptions in those 26 days. I very much appreciate that! Can’t tell you how much! It will certainly help in propelling me forward in my 365 Project. Otherwise, it would just be me listening to myself talk, and that’s not much fun. More than me being heard, this gives such a great pleasure to meet so many other fans. I can’t say enough good about that. It also gives the ability to introduce some of you to other bloggers who are much more interesting than me. No, I’m not being self-deprecating. I mean that. There are some interesting folk who are Richard Armitage fans. I’m happy to be a conduit for them — except when I want to get on my high horse about such things as SOPA. Then I want you to listen to me. :D

Can you tell I’m trying to get you in a Guy mood? Hope it’s working.

For those contemplating entering the Little Guy contest but not sure, I have a post for you later today or maybe tomorrow morning.

Playing Catchup Has Never Been This Fun

From mid August to mid December, I was not very attentive to RA Universe, and I’m still terribly behind on my reading. But I am making up for lost time, and the blog pieces I’m reading are wonderfully done. Stay tuned for when I cheat a little and reblog some of what others have written. My biggest problem is deciding what to highlight first. Other bloggers have referenced and even highlighted some of these pieces, but that was their highlight and not mine. :D

And for the record, I was so right about giving Phylly the Do Wah Diddy Diddy Award. More on that later.

I also made several promises last year that I intend to make good on this year. No, that’s not a burden. It will be a joy. One of those is the Little Guy contest. More on that later today.

A picture to wake you up in case this post is not enough:

Phew! that look would wake up most. :D

People, People, People

I know Peter Jackson won’t allow any photography from the winner of the Charity Auction! I was kidding about getting some pictures. It was just a joke. Honest.

Although if I were a winner, I might be tempted to take one of these to NZ:

No, not the matchstick. That thing above it — the camera. :D Of course I would also have to get a fake id and board a plane under false pretenses, so that I wouldn’t have to sign my real name on the non-disclosure agreement. LOL!

Watch someone take this seriously. Haven’t you learned anything about this blog?

Maybe a disclaimer to Sir Peter will soothe you:

Dear Sir Peter,

I like to tease which you may not realize since you have absolutely no clue about me or this blog. Thank Heaven! But if for some reason you do, ignore me.

Signed,
A fan, but I am not at liberty to say who I am a fan of at the moment. It’s all very secret so that no one will feel funny, ever, about anything.

So the letter to Sir Peter didn’t work?

Maybe a picture will put you in a better mood:

Oh, you’re still reading, Sir Peter. Well, pay no attention to the picture. It’s just a photo of a pleasant looking chap who could pass for some guy named Richard Armitage.

Let’s Do Lunch?

If you have ever wondered what RA frenzy really looks like, see what Calexora is proposing. I just have one thing to say about it. If you go, get some pictures and video for us! :D

But candidly, this is so majestic and lush (click to enlarge photos):

not to mention this:

that Callie might not be that crazy. :D

The Chameleon

It was jarring to see the mixing of Richard Armitage’s characters in my last piece where several have “Guy hair”. That kind of cross-contamination doesn’t fit with how RA brought these characters to such lovely fruition.

The richness and distinction between his characters is what makes me such a rabid fan. From almost the beginning, I was stunned at this ability. And then there is Richard Armitage himself, who has managed to make his personality evident while not letting it bleed into his characterizations. He is not Guy no matter how gorgeous Guy’s hair.

Quick! When’s the last time you’ve known of an actor who played such distinct characters and was this distinct himself?!

ROFLOL!!!!!!!!!!

Ahem. I couldn’t help that even though I know some of you like this look.

Now that I’m reasonably sure my laptop will survive, I’ll take my leave for the evening. :D

edit: back this morning, and I have many more thoughts about these photos coming up in the next post. For now I’ll say that they have struck at something I was going to talk about more in-depth at some point — Richard’s ability to immerse himself so completely in a character. More soon. For now, I have to go drive around on the side of a mountain.

Yes, the Kid in the Back

Ali has put up a photo of Richard Armitage on tour with 42nd Street c. 1991. Do I need to diagram this? Nope, it’s obvious. He’s in the back with a huge grin on his face. What a joy to watch someone like that. I have a child who is rather tall and also a dancer. She is in the back a lot due to her height. When you’re taller than the others, you are often relegated to the back. But the look of pure joy on her face usually makes her stand out. She is almost always smiling. That’s her natural response to most public situations and to life in general. Perhaps I’m imbuing RA with her qualities, but it seems that he smiles a lot. I love that. There’s not enough smiling in the world.

edit: So perhaps Richard is standing behind the front of the line. I’m not sure, but that slightly pointed ear of the dark headed guy might be his. But I stand by what I said earlier about him smiling. If nothing else, the other picture taken behind the scenes at 42nd Street supports the claim. :D
