The Reality of Richard Armitage

The Hobbit event today will give another wave of adoring fans the chance to see Richard Armitage in the flesh for the first time, and I eagerly await their reactions. I always eagerly await a fan’s reaction to seeing Richard for the first time, because no matter the thought of him, the reality is different. Certainly, this is the case with most celebrities, and usually, it means they are not quite as dazzling in real life. They are just people after all.

This is not the case with Richard Armitage. Oh sure, he’s a person with foibles like the rest of us, but also does have that curious blend of grace and brawn we all love as well as a gracious demeanor and gorgeous eyes. And before I was actually confronted with him at no more than a foot away, I was wondering how much of that could be attributed to camera angles, editing of film clips, etc. I’m a skeptic by nature borne out of my many experiences meeting the famous as a child and young adult. Those experiences were never fan driven but rather as a result of my father’s occupation. I have no idea how many celebrities, whether sports heroes or dignitaries or Hollywood types, that I’ve met. It wasn’t unusual for my parents to have the famous at our dinner table, and so I had plenty of time to observe these people in a more natural setting, which taught me very quickly not to be dazzled. People are people, and I still believe that.

But all of the wonderful assets of Richard Armitage are not only present, they may be present exponentially and especially his kindness. I don’t think someone can fake the kindness he exudes. It is palpable, but not an obsequious sort of kindness that seeks to send the tacit message, “Look at how kind I’m being to you.” It’s more a confident, comfortable in his skin kindness that says, “I like people. I like you, and this is a pleasant interlude.” In fact, his serene demeanor is stunning. He is an unflappable individual. Certainly he has his moments of temper out of control, but for the most part, I get the impression he’s a happy individual. Either that or he was on drugs when I saw him. :D

If I had to pick a character whom he most resembles in look and actions, it would be Monet.

TI1_037

And the most shocking thing about seeing him in person? His nose is not prominent. It just looks like a man’s nose and not the distracting proboscis the photos often convey. His nose is beautiful, and he is beautiful, and I rarely use a word like that to describe an individual much less a man.

There’s a Bicep

Oh yeah, there’s a bicep:
Bicep1

and a tricep as well as a helluv an extensor. Not even going to mention the deltoid, ’cause, well, it’s covered.

There it is again:
Bicep2

And again:
Tricep

No, I guess that’s a tricep alone. I can handle it. :D

It’s been awhile since I’ve had a good bout of blatant objectification. Sue me.

And maybe it’s just me, but I actually like the lack of cuts in his arms. It means the strength there is more naturally his and not a pretty boy getting bulked up in the gym. This strength is much more compelling than the well toned, oiled, pecs bigger than most women’s chests kind of guys. It’s also in part why I wrote this post.

Note: new tag ‘bicep’

I Had a Great Need to Do This

Richard Armitage auditioning for Thorin

Since the Thorin audition has been talked about quite extensively, I’m not going to bore you with my full assessment of it. Suffice to say it agrees with much of what I’ve read from several of you with my net assessment being my gushing over Richard Armitage’s talent is justified, and we ain’t seen nothing yet. :D

But all the talk aside, I had to do this for myself.

In the meantime, it’s going to be interesting to see how others come to view him, and it’s hard to think there won’t be a critical mass who see him as quite a force. And if I’m deceived in my thinking, I don’t care. I like his stuff, and that’s enough for me.

Richard has struck again

It seems our friend Todd Garner has been hit by the Armitage Effect. ;-)

What I want to know is whether Richard also subdues the Black Sky and Sarah Wayne Callies while he’s at it.

Aside: do you see how there is absolutely no need for Richard Armitage to be on Twitter? He’s put the whammy on all of us (I’m not complaining). Meanwhile, I would bet he’s dreaming somewhere.

Clever :D

Wait! a pic courtesy of Todd Garner. Thank you, Todd.

Rich,

I really do think you’re clever, and Todd Garner is no slouch himself.

Looking forward to this movie.

One of your crazy fans

I can’t stand it. I had to blow it up:

I never had a teacher who looked like that. No dreamboats at my high school. Yeah, it was dull.

And yeah, I need a slap. It’s late where I am, and I’ll probably regret this post in the morning, but for now, damn! this is fun. Definitely beats the hell out of what I’ve been doing the last few months.

Green Becomes You, Baby

I’m caving into my lame gene. That’s where I come with all manner of assinine titles because these pictures strike me dumb. Just don’t count on any Latin when I’m in this frame of mind. Oh, you weren’t counting on any Latin anyway? Okay, good. Just checkin’. :D

The Three Thorins

It took Eight Elvises to generate a buzz and that from those who are rabidly into art. Three Thorins is an overload, and when I look at them, I don’t give a rat’s ass about art. :D

No Hobbit at Comic-Con 2013

Just announced on Peter Jackson’s latest vlog here that the cast will not be at Comic-Con 2013.

One of the main reasons, they’re busy getting ready for the Battle of the Five Armies:

vlcsnap-2013-07-01-13h34m34s21

A big bummer. However, if you are already going to Comic-Con, and it’s your first time, there is so much more there to see than Peter Jackson and The Hobbit cast.

The new video log in HD:

This is the Way to Do It

I’m not back in full swing yet. Too much work going on, but I had to share this. It put a huge smile on my face. I’m still smiling and you will be too.

Methinks someone has been watching Vicar of Dibley again. If this isn’t VoD inspired, I’ll eat my hat.

I wish I had been more lighthearted at my own wedding. I was a stick-in-the-mud. Hopefully some of my children are reading this and know that I do not expect them to be the same when they marry.

Note: if I’m not back in full swing tomorrow, then you all can consider me dead, and I’m far from dead. Never felt more alive actually. :D

And a picture that still makes me belly laugh:

Dear Sir Peter, Again

Dear Sir Peter,

I’m not going to cop to how many times I’ve watched this new trailer for The Desolation of Smaug, but sufficient to say you have once again sucked me into this Hobbit madness. Hell, man, I wasn’t even paying that much attention to Richard Armitage (no offense, Richard). That’s how serious this is. My latent Ringer doesn’t want to be so latent anymore.

Desolation_of_Smaug_Trailer_screencap

But the dirty secret of my Ringer is I like that you’ve injected something more into Tolkien’s story, because now I have no real clue what exactly is going to happen in the second movie!!!! Yes, I know there’s a confrontation with a dragon, but the somewhat unknown elements that you’ve either taken from other writings or just made them up, gives me a sense this might be a better movie than the first. Hopefully we can keep it this way. So no more dragon. That was almost too much. I don’t want to see anymore of Smaug until December and especially don’t want to hear him. And please, please, please no spoilers on the romance between Kili and Tauriel. Otherwise, I’ll have to make good on my promise.

That’s all for now, and I hope you know it’s my Ringer who is so demanding. As for myself, I could care less as long as you keep the Richard pics coming. :D

Thank you so much for listening.

Signed,
One of Richard’s crazy fans who is almost afraid to get her second wind on all things Hobbit

P.S. Since I’m being so candid, yeah, I did look at Richard a little.

Here We Go Again — The Desolation of Smaug Trailer

Excellent!

And there was no dragon. Love it! Okay, there wasn’t enough dragon to really be a major spoiler.

And of course, our guy, and be sure to click to enlarge. :D

That was too much fun and a real challenge to my need to stay away from spoilers.
